Survivor Of Mountain Lion Attack Is Critical

SAN FRANCISCO -- The survivor of a mountain lion attack is in critical condition, a day after being flown to a bigger hospital in San Francisco.

Jim Hamm was moved because doctors believe he can get better care there.

Officials said Hamm was infected by germs in the mountain lion's mouth, and that made his condition deteriorate in recent days. He's now on antibiotics, and a hospital spokesman said they're "quite hopeful."

Hamm was attacked Wednesday in a state park about 300 miles north of San Francisco. He was hiking with his wife when the animal pounced. It scalped him and mauled his face, ripping off part of his lips.

Predators tend to go for the jugular or the face mainly so that they can disable the prey and protect themselves from your defenses. Every mountain lion attack I have read about or bear attack or any predator they always go for the face first.
