I am looking to buy a 9mm, and have been pretty set on getting the CZ75b in 9mm.

But now I've figured out that I can get a used glock for about the same price from several places, either 17 or 19.

This would be a range and CCW gun.

Are used glocks a good bet? Ive heard so much about their reliability, is there any way I could get one thats not in top shape?

What are other considerations I should be making?

I know the glock has it's own trigger system, and that the CZ is DA/SA. Same mag counts. I can get the semi-compact glock for the same price, but every CZ75 Compact I have seen is considerably more than the fullsize.

Which would you pick?

Two issues to consider

Couple of things to consider. First, for concealed carry, the CZ is very heavy, IMO. Second, Glock has a HUGE aftermarket support system for holsters, sights, springs, magazines, etc. I'm sure you'll hear opinions to the contrary, but I think the Glock 19 is hard to beat.:)

Shoot the one you shoot the best. For me, since I have put a few 1000 rounds through my 19 and NONE through any CZ, I'd go w/ the Glock

I love CZ's - I've owned/carried them for the past 26 years. However, Glocks are excellent in terms of accuracy, reliability and light weight for carry. You'll be well-served with either, but...my money would go with Glock purely in terms of weight and availability of parts.

The other thing to consider is that I can get a used 226 for about the same price as well. Is this another good option?

As far as shooting...

I have handled a glock 17, and shot a glock 19. But never a CZ. I cannot find anyplace with CZs localy to handle one, much less shoot one.

I guess what it comes down to is, should I take my chances with a used glock (or 226?) when I can get a brand new CZ for the same price (which is by all reports fantastic) and not have to take any chances that come with buying a used gun?

First, for concealed carry, the CZ is very heavy

Not if you get the compact, lightweight alloy framed CZ's like the CZ-75D PCR or CZ P-01. I prefer the PCR as its slimmer in the muzzle than the P-01. Very easy to carry and superior to the G19 in accuracy.

Three of my Glocks were purchased used. Two are factory refurbs, which I high recommend. My dad has a CZ75 and it makes an excellent range pistol. Depends on what you really like, but I'd go with the Glock. It's better suited to CCW and can easily be adapted to range use. If you tend to prefer the heft of an all steel gun, then get the CZ. As already mentioned, alloy frame CZs are also a good alternative.

BTW, I prefer the G19 for an all-around gun.

Carried both, shot both, CZ is better for me. Glock feels like a brick. CZ fits like a glove. CZ works all the time, every time, for me, had old Dept G-rocks fail on the range more times than once, but, in all fairness, those were beat dead range guns.
Figure which one fits you best...as for weight, I carried a full size all steel Witness for 13 years concealed, no problem. the PCR is a great compact carry CZ, but with the right holster, (like one from HBE Leatherworks), the full size CZ can be just as comfortable. The PO1 is also quite capable of concealed carry, with the right holster.

Me choice would be the CZ, in fact thats the choice I made after shooting both. With a good holster it carries all day without any diffaculty, for me at least. But than I don't think a 1911 Govt. model is hard to carry either. Of course your hand is probably a diffrent size than mine, and our body type and size could be diffrent too. You should choose the one that fits your needs and hand best. At the range I have trouble hitting the ground with a Glock while the CZ will group a full mag that you can cover with a half doller at 15 yd. So as the old saying goes diffrent strokes for diffrent folks.

I enjoy shooting the CZ more than the Glock. But if the pistols main role is a CCW then I'd choose the Glock.

CZ Pro's
Reliable, accurate, cocked and locked carry.

CZ cons
Heavy, finish is not as durable as Glocks, replacement parts and aftermarket support harder to come by

Glock Pro's
Rugged, easily obtainable parts and accessories, reliable and lightweight

Glock Cons
No manual safety, thick slide, trigger

YMMV

Both these pistols are quality made firearms. I don't think there's going to be any objective right-or-wrong criteria that will decide this one for you.

However, these pistols have a very different feel from each other, different system of operation, different trigger, etc.

I bet if you rented or borrowed one of each and shoot 50 rounds through each, you'd know for sure which one you wanted, simply based on which one you personally like better.

It's like saying, "which is better, vanilla or chocolate?" Nobody is really going to be able to tell you, but once you try, you'll know.

Malice, here are my thoughts on your situation. CZs and SIGs, as you know, are DA/SA. I don't care for the DA first, SA following shots. I like a nice consistent trigger pull whether its SA Only, "Safe Action" type striker firing, or a GOOD DA only pull. Thats my OPINION on trigger types and why I'd go Glock over the CZ or SIG.

Here are some other things to consider:
1. I won't buy a pistol of a type I've never handled, and so don't even know if it fits my hand. If I were in your situation that would put the CZ out for me since they aren't available to locally handle first and get support second (if needed).

2. I don't know what SIG availabilty is in your area, but that is something to consider. If SIGs are available in your area, you like their trigggers, and/ or get a chance to shoot them both and shoot the SIG better I'd go that way.

3.Glocks have the same trigger pull every time, no manual safety to mess with, and lighter weight than the other two for equal size. You can get them almost everywhere, and they have great aftermarket support. See this thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=185750 for an example of their factory support on a heavily used pistol. Thats the typical experience individuals report, and is typical of the level of dealer support I saw from Glock when I worked for a very large gun store on the east coast. If the Glock feels good in your hand and you shoot it well (if given the chance to before buying) I'd go that way.

I'd lean toward the Glock or Sig for local availability. I'd still do my best to handle them all and get the one that fits YOU best. If the CZ fits your hand better than the other two hands down go that way. All are quality pistols and there is no "wrong" answer, simply the right one for you.

Just to make things clear, the CZ's can be carried in SA mode, cocked and locked. So the same trigger pull is there all the time.

Before you buy....

See if you can find and handle a CZ40B. It is not as heavy, even loaded with 10 - 14 rounds of hot .40 S&W. It is on the order of the 1911, has a marvelous trigger and can be found new under $400. CZ made them for Colt (was to be the Colt Z for New York's Finest until Sig slid in the back door) but the 5,000 they made are loose in the U.S.A as CZ40B. Glock 19 holsters fit. MecGar, ProMag and Pierce make mags for it. The carry with one up, hammer down and no worries is as satisfying as my Para Ordnance 14-45 at half the weight. It is also going to be the most excellent shooter right out of the box of all CZs and will stand next to Glocks all day long. I have done it on more than one occasion. It drops mags easier than most on IPSC courses. NO FTF.. EVER... eats lead, FMJ adn HP. Commander sized. Needs to replace the recoil spring with a SIG 20# to keep the guy from 25 feet away from being mad at your ejected cartridges... which translates into being mad at you!

IMHO
Plain

I have the chance to buy a almost new glock 19 for cheap, or a CZ75. For me its no contest, the CZ wins. The glock feels like I am holding a plastic stick with finger groves. The grip doesn't fit my hand at all, and is uncomfortable. I am not against non-steel pistols, but every glock I have fired does not work well with my hands. The CZ 75 on the other hand, feels like it was almost cut for my hand. With a set of better then factory grips, I would be set. The aftermarket support isn't that big of an issue, how many diffrent holsters and such does a person really need?

If I can have a USED CZ-75 or a brand new Glock 9mm for the same price, I will choose the CZ. :) Someone mentioned in another thread, CZ-75 is used by more militaries than any other handgun model. Wise choice, IMO.

Carrying a CZ cocked and locked sounds good to me. My next pistol will be a 1911 of some variety - after that a CZ might tempt me away from another Glock. So many handguns, so little time to buy and shoot them all :banghead:

IMO... having owned both now... the CZ is why I'm selling my Glock... it just feels like a real gun... it points right... the Glock just doesn't "fit" anymore...

I live in small town Mississippi and can get a CZ in town, and 30 miles away I can get them no problem. CZ's are so dispersed that I am surprised that any area would not have them available. You need to try out both pistols and pick the one that best fits you, but ignore folks who say the CZ can't be found and has no support. You can get everything for a CZ that you can for a Glock. There may be fewer manufacturers for holsters and accessories, but come on, what accessories can you get for a Glock that you cannot get for a CZ, ignoring, of course, Birdman's wonderful products.

CCW holster? Night Sights? Attachments? While Glock may have a larger pool of support, you can get everything for the CZ that you can the Glock, and as far as CCW goes, all you need is a good holster, which can be had for either. Replacement parts are easy to get for the CZ via an e-mail or phone call.

I have yet to go to a gunshow in the last 10 years that I could not get a CZ at, either. IN the end, pick the one that serves you best. Consider above all things how it handles and carries for you. However, you are considering buying a used pistol compared to a new one. What about a used CZ versus a used Glock.

if your life depends on it go with glock

cz is a great range gun But mine has been trouble as far as relaibilty goes.

When I bought my cz it was the same choice you are making now. I wish I had bought the glock now. If I ever needed anyone to work on it I could find someone in town. Not so with the cz. Nobody I know personally has ever needed work on thier glock but I need work done to my cz and would have to ship it off.

i'm looking into getting a cz.

i have a glock 19. was my first handgun.

i love it.
very well balanced, high capacity, reliable, durable, very accurate, easy to strip & clean, lots of accessories for it, and most of all......a lot of fun to shoot !

if i were to ever carry, my choice would be my g19 - hands down.

shot at least 5000 rounds through it.
never had any problems with it. used all types of ammunition - wwb, blazer, umc, pmc, winclean, umc jhp. ate everything i gave it.

The Glocks are like carrying a revolver - no safeties, just simple defense. Pull the trigger and it goes bang. Can't go wrong with the Glock. The smallest Glock is the 26. The 19 is also small.
