In order to help fund a rifle purchase I've decided to part with some firearms that I've hardly shot and really have no plans to shoot. As nice as these revolvers are I'm carrying a Bowen Classic Arms Ruger SRH "Alaskan" chambered in .454 Casull on hikes, hunts and camping and have a Redhawk in .45 Colt as well that I won't part with. I have all of the original boxes, manuals, etc., and also have the two .45 ACP cylinders that go with these revolvers. These have been shot less than 20 times each. I have the Power Custom kits installed in both so that the cylinder lines up with the push rod and they have the Colt "clicks". I have the original parts too. So what say you? What can I expect to get for these two on Gunbroker or equivalent?

@Obturation, thanks. They are really handsome revolvers for sure and I would hope that someone who really likes SA Ruger revolvers will buy them and give them the life that they deserve. I'll put them on GB next week and see if I get any takers. Tax season is here so the timing might be good. I'm a big fan of the .45 Colt/.454 Casull and will keep my Bowen SRH, Redhawk and 1894 Marlin to satisfy my big bore needs. The "Alaskan" is ridiculous now and everything I could want in a big bore DA revolver. I might even send my Redhawk to Bowen this year to see what he can do with it since he did an awesome job with the SRH.

Ive got a ruger toklat i love, a trip to get tuned up may be in order for mine as well

Based on the work he did to my SRH I'd certainly recommend him to others. A trigger job and better sights would be great. Not sure if he could do much with the grip frame.

In my experience, smithing, buying, trading, selling hundreds of Rugers over the years, and considering current market prices, I'd say you should ask for $1200, expect $1,100, and take $1,000 if you need to move them, or like the guy. A pair of Bisley's could be bought new for under $1400 today, and under $1200 about 2-3yrs ago. The Power Custom kits typically completely lose value in resale - you'd be better off converting them back and selling them separately. I've always believed would-be buyers assume customization to an SBH like that means the revolvers have seen a lot of use, so whatever value they give to the extra parts, they deduct from the value of the revolver for usage - even if it's just an irrational mental bias. You'll get more value out of the total package by selling the kits used and putting the OEM parts back in place.

The real problem is the fact they're SBH's. Bisley SBH's are fantastic hunting revolvers, and the black lam shingles always seem to resell well. But the PC kits don't typically sell highly to the common SBH shooter, nor do matching pairs. The sequential serial number, matching pair deal doesn't sell nearly as well in SBH's as it does in Vaqueros/New Vaqueros. Cowboy action shooting is a hollow shell of what it once was, and SBH's don't sell to the new shooters there anywhere near as well as they might have in the past. Pairs of SBH's are a bear to move for fair prices. Way easier to split them up - which is heartbreaking to do for a consecutive serial set.

The 45acp cylinders do add some value, sold separately you should get $100-125 each. If these were factory convertibles, then add $200-300 to my price above. If they're take-off cylinders you've added to the package, you might get $50 value to bundle. Which is exceptionally frustrating, since there's just as much "fitting" involved - which is to say none at all - when a guy adds a take-off cylinder on his own as when Ruger adds it at the factory. They just grab cylinders from a bin and drop it in.

So if they're factory convertibles, $1400 would be great price for the pair for both seller and buyer. If they're not factory convertibles, I think $1200 is a "hot damn" price, and $1100 is pretty fair, then you can add about $300 to that by selling the PC kits for $50 each and the cylinders for $100 each.

@Varminterror , thanks for the very detailed response. The revolvers are factory convertibles. If I can get $1400 to $1500 on GB for everything I'd feel good about that. It would take some of the sting out of the AI AX I plan on buying. I have a 3" GP100 and 3" SP101 I plan on selling too so maybe I can get to $2,000.

First time around on GB they got to $900 but didn't meet my reserve price. They've been relisted, and frankly I won't mind if I end up keeping them. They are really nice revolvers. It's been a while since I sold anything on GB and I notice that there's a charge for 2% of the reserve price in addition to the commission once the item(s) sell. I guess they were fed up with folks listing items at no cost with high reserves and then relisting for months or even years. I can see their point on this.

I think you'd have better luck splitting them up. I agree with VT that this is not really the configuration that sells consecutive pairs. I think you'll get more out of them separately. For me, the PC kit is a plus and I'd easily pay $100-$150 extra for the guns with the kits installed. I would list them on RugerForum.

@CraigC , thanks for the info/advice. If they don't sell as a pair this time around on GB I'll list them on RugerForum individually with the PC kits installed.

Well, they sold for $1,200 without the Power Custom kits so that's about what I paid for them back in 2010 I think. I'll put the PC kits up for sale on this forum. Up next is a 3" Ruger GP100 that I don't use.
