Vintage Pistol for Home Defense

Although my lcr remains my primary bedside and edc, I have been occasionally keeping my Webley wg loaded bedside as well. I would trust it for a close range encounter. Low risk ov overpenetration and it's a hell ov a lot quieter than 327mag or even 32H&R, so i'd save my ears if it were to ever be fired inside.

She's a beauty!

I may have missed a previous post on this, but does anyone here use a vintage pistol (say over 50 years old) for home defense? I know a lot of older designs are still being made, but the originals may not be able to handle the hotter rounds or might have feeding issues on non-ball ammo. I’ve kept a 1917 Colt .45 in my bedside table as well as a French .32 over the years. If you do keep a vintage pistol or other on hand what is your preference?
Over 50 years old? I know that sounds like a loooong time, but good lord, that was only 1968. Lots of firearms made way back then were shooting hot non-ball ammo.
Young 'uns. harrumphh... Now just you wait your turn. Before you know it your music will be on the oldies station and the kids will be questioning the wisdom of using your vintage polymer firearms for personal defense.
:rofl::rofl:

I don't use vintage pistols for home defense but if limited to my ~50 year old pistols that would leave a S&W model 10-5 or CZ-52 pistol. Either would suffice if forced into that role with some careful attention paid to ammo selection.

I have some old guns, I would not personally use then as a CCW or HD gun. There are just too many reasonably priced new guns out there to buy(S&W SD9, Ruger 9E, Walther Creed, etc.) to chance an old gun not working properly. JMO.

I have seen a fair number of new guns that don't work well - especially the "bargain" models.
It's not the age - it's the reliability that counts.

I've got a few guns that cost under $300 that are VERY reliable. My Ruger P95, my Walther PPX, my Ruger LCPs, my Shield 9.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe if you are involved in a shooting they will take not just the involved firearm, but all the firearms you have access to. I know that will be the case if there is even the slightest link to a family dispute. Maybe there are retired / active LEOs that will comment.

I would like LEOs to weigh in on this as well. I can see the police taking the firearm used in the actual SD/HD shooting as some form of evidence, then returned after the case is settled.

If there is a case of domestic violence, here in AZ, I believe it is Fed requirement that firearms from the 2 parties are required to be removed from either party's access. And getting them back is not automatic; you have to petition the court and typically wait 6 mos. AND hope the firearms were not distroyed / disposed of by the authorities.
