*edit*- After an e mail to clarify, my source cant confirm or deny that the BATF is banning all 5.45x39, but will say they are in the process of trying to milk the situation between Russia and Ukraine for all they can take, ammo and firearms alike. Sorry if I jumped the gun a bit

Your "source" is full of crap.

Sounds like he might be looking to unload some 5.45x39 he paid too much for.

My source is solid. Hes not a dealer or even a gun person. He is in a position to know, and thats all im going to say about it. Take it or leave it, as you wish. By the way, some people might like to know a few things that are going on, so how about show a little tact for the rest of us.

Getting off topic here, but your flaky response confirms my previous statement about your "source."

I won't deny that the current administration is likely to milk the Russia/Ukraine situation for all it's worth, but the statement that the ATF is looking to secretly ban all 5.45x39mm is nonsense. What about that made by US allies? Or the 5.45x39mm ammo made in the United States? Come on. 7N6 was specifically banned because it met the legal definition of "armor-piercing" and the ATF looked high and low for a pistol that would fire it.

Until you can provide some evidence that your super-secret top tier government operative buddy knows what he's talking about (or even exists), I'm leaving this one in the realm of tinfoil hattery.

I didn't think vz 58s came in 7n6, but I am curious what the market forces us that is causing 7.62 x 39 to be the only ammo not in stock at local walmarts for a while now.

Plenty of TulAmmo 7.62x39mm at Wal-Marts around here.

Fishbed I really dont know what your beef is, but im no liar and im no nut. If you will look at my post edit, you will see that I retracted the part about a total ban on 5.45 after getting more information from the source I unintentionaly mis quoted. If you are just stewing for a conflict, how about just using the message format and confront me man to man instead of dragging this out in this thread.

Just wanted to give a quick update/range review of the CNC warrior knurled compensator. http://www.cncwarrior.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=23263

I've seen this highly recommended by the nets and wanted to give it a try. My problem was the infamous cheek slap from the folding stock. I was skeptical that just switching out the compensator would make that much of a difference. I ware I would have to look at alternative stock options. The first time I put a few mags through the gun I had a bruise on my cheekbone for a week. I was sure I would have to look at alternative stock options. This time it was a huge difference, I did a good 100 cheek-friendly rounds today. The compensator gives good side to side stability and zero vertical movement. This can be proved by folding the stock and shooting, as the rifle slides straight backwards in your hands, no rise. As I understand it's not necessarily found on the originals, but it still has a simple, rugged, eastern-bloc look to it. Before I had the century arms akm brake on, and it really was the problem. I didn't compare it to no muzzle device, but I am happy with the purchase.

Similar ones to this are available around the nets, but CNC warrior will thread it properly for the Vz2008 (or so they say) at any rate it screwed on smoothly. It is marked to indicate U.S. manufacturer as well for the appropriate 922r compliance. My particular rifle may need a washer of some sort as it was just slightly loose, but held on by the detent. The device is on the large side, and will ad a few ounces and a couple inches to the overall length, but it also seemed to suppress flash adequately as well. The bayonet still mounts under the device as well but now you have a little less blade available for stabbing zombies or whatever.

Now I can keep my low profile stock and focus on some heat mitigating handguards...

Last weekend a neighbor tested out my VZ2008 with me, and encountered bad cheek slap (I, oddly enough, was unaffected, but I must have a rock-like face, or something :p). Fortunately, CAI was forward-thinking enough to make the brake very easily removable by hand, so I screwed it off, and... presto-change, the rifle runs just like a D-Technik in terms of recoil.

Seeing as the guns are identical in every way except for .25" of barrel and the brake, it's pretty obvious the brake is the problem. CAI really needs to stop selling the rifles with them and instead have flat-cut "thread protectors" put on at the least.

On an AK where the weight is so much farther forward, it makes more sense that a brake would be needed to control the muzzle (and your cheek has a much longer moment arm to the center of mass). On the VZ, the brake causes the muzzle to go down, and the rifle to pivot around its center of mass nearer the mag well, punching the stock up into your face. It happens on the fixed-stock versions too, I hear.

I had the same cnc warrior brake installed at the builder before I took delivery of the rifle, as my variant uses the original barrel and normally has an extention. I didnt like the looks of the extention so I bought and shipped the brake to them. Its a nice looking and functioning addition that looks alot better. If anyone is going to build a kit and wants to use the factory barrel, it will bring it to legal when welded on.

I got my VZ2008 and it's got great fit and finish, but the bayonet has a dummy blade! I have a rough stone I can use to get it close to a cutting edge profile, but it's going to take a while.

Anyone get one like that?

It's a stabber, not a cutter. Like SKS blades, I doubt it will take a knife edge, and doubt more that it will hold one. I always figured they make these bayonets look like knives so soldiers will assume they need to hone them; thus giving bored infantry something to do on guard duty :D

It's going to take a blade, but I suppose I will find out if it's too soft to bother actually using it if it dulls too quick with use.

It's funny how 5.45 7N6 both contains lead in its core and is under .22 cal, placing it squarely outside the definition of "armor piercing" ammo under federal law, but the ATF flatly ignored that fact. They are operating completely ultra vires, and this wouldn't be the only area.

Its not just the BATF, every part of this presidents executive branch is operating beyond the power given it. We the people will have to decide soon whether we will continue to let one president after another grab more power. It has already un balanced the separation of powers put in place by the founders to the point of going around the peoples representatives in congress daily.

So I've noticed after a couple range sessions that the VZ with your typical 7.62x39 ammo gets really dirty really fast. Being my first semi-auto rifle, I'm wondering if this is typical? Though the receiver design is open and simple, there are still a lot of sharp corners and nooks and crannies where residue gets too. The worst of course is the gas system dumping dirty gases all up in the handguard area. My bolt and other pieces got pretty dirty too, just from 150 rds or so.

My inquiry is 3 part. Do you think the VZ design is inherently dirtier than, say, an Ak47 which vents gases outside? With respect to living in a humid climate, do I need to worry about cleaning anything besides the essentials after every range trip (bore, bolt, bolt carrier, piston)? What is your preferred cleaning regime?

What ammo are you using? I don't find my vz to get any dirtier than an AK, even with cheap TulAmmo.

But it is harder to clean, due to a few more nooks and crannies.

@Bohemus
Interesting looking mag.
Any idea what price point they might sell at?
Is there any metal reinforcement of the feed lips?
Do they have any plans to make reduced capacity versions?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

Hopefully Magpul doesn't beat them to the punch

*no, there are no rumors of Magpul making VZ products.
