W.F.T. Worlds Finest Trimmer - OK I bought one of these and here are my observations.
Seems like its well designed and built. It’s very simple to use and convenient to store. The one I bought is for .223 and all the brass I trimmed was first resized with a full length Lee RGB die in .223. I trimmed LC, Winchester, FC, RP, and Black Hills brass.
The trimming cuts were very clean and level but the results were inconsistent in regards to the trim to length. I tried to set the WFT to 1.750 but I was getting a range of 1.745 – 1.753. I tried various combinations of the brass with the head stamps listed above but the trim length was always inconsistent.
So I switched my die to a full length Forster Bench Rest sizing die and again full length sized all the brass before trimming. But this time all the brass was trimmed to the same length. I was a little short at 1.747 so I adjusted the trimmer and now all the brass I trim is 1.549 or 1.750. I’m not sure if it’s the pressure I’m using to trim of if it’s the brass. I have 2 AR’s and I’m not sure which AR the brass was shot in last so I’ll pay more attention in the future but the results are OK for my applications.
I would really like a better way to adjust the trim to length on this unit. It’s basically a shaft held in place with 3 set screws. Once you loosen the screws you have a good chance to set the length by using calibers to measure the shaft length but it always moves a little when you tighten the set screws. It takes a few tries to get it perfect but once it’s set it does not seem to move. It would be nice if the WFT crew at the very least graduated the shaft to make the adjustments more consistent. I’ve trimmed a few hundred rounds so far.
I really like this unit. Regardless of the price the results are better than expected. It’s easy, quick and the cut it’s clean and as far as I can tell the cut is square. I haven’t used a Giraud or Gracey so I don’t know how this compares but the results are great compared to the RCBS hand trimmer I’ve been using, especially for the price. I plan to get one for my 30.06. If I had to recommend this unit I would without any hesitation.
I‘d like to hear from others to see what their experiences are.
