I stopped by my Walmart sporting goods yesterday just to check for .22 ammo and the girl said they were marking down all "black guns. Dpms .308 $900.00, colts .223 $699.00, mossburg 930 tactical $400.00, rem 870 $249.00, and the rest ar15's were $499.00 up to $900.00. I think she told me they had 9 ar 15 left. The Jonesboro La. Store is not going to sale any "black" guns anymore,I don't know about Walmart in general. What got me the most was they even had discounted ..223 ammo as well.

I would be surprised if it was a company wide new policy, I thought individual store owners kind of set their own policies as far as selling firearms.

If it is true, I would think it has more to do with falling sales in the post-panic rather than an attempt to 'get rid of those scary assault weapons', even though a few of their share holders have been beating the drum for a while on that.

Stores up here in NE Ohio quit selling all guns maybe 15 or 20 years ago. Been a long time since I have seen any guns in a Walmart. They do sell ammunition.

I stopped by this morning to pick up a couple of boxes of .22 (yes it was on the shelf) and my friend who works there said they cleared out the slow moving stock. No change in policy.

Some around here don't have firearms at all and haven't ever, others do and the one I went to the day before yesterday still had an AR on display and it was not on sale.

Like Reloadron said, it's a store policy, not company wide. Stores in Ohio (N.E., at least) stopped selling guns at least 10 years ago, maybe longer.

Years ago, I was in Wal-Mart in New Mexico, where they sold handguns. Ohio stores never sold them. It's up to either store managers or district managers what gets sold.

I agree that it's a store-wide, not company-wide, policy. We have a bunch of WMs around here. Sometimes not more than a mile separates two stores, one that sells guns and one that doesn't.

She reported it accurately - the store was marking down guns. It's a leap to say "Walmart is going out of the black rifle business." from there. She didn't say that.

When they release "markdown money" the clerks write down the selling price thru out the department based on what isn't moving and we are the recipients of corporate's overestimated sense of what it could sell for.

Their is a glut of AR's on the market, we aren't buying because we collectively feel safe enough to keep them on the shelf and spend our money on something else. Get the ATF to propose something stupid or have POTUS imply some ban is forthcoming and it'll whip up sales among those who never think ahead.

If the price was right did you buy up all the discounted ammo? It will keep for 5-10 years.

Shop those markdowns, they are pretty good sometimes.

Walmart has some of the best inventory control models and folks doing the analyzing. If a product doesn't move enough units in a predetermined period of time, it gets gone. They keep their prices lower by operating on a thinner margin which means carrying costs are a big no-no, especially on higher dollar merchandise.

The sporting goods girl said they told her no more ar15's or other black guns. They also marked down a Ruger 10-22 with a "black" fiber glass stock for $199.00, somebody bought it fast. What really bothers me is them marking down .223 fmj ammo,7.62x39 ammo is also gone? Federal .223 fmj 200 rd count for half price. O'well we'll just have to wait and see.

There are no individual Wal-Mart 'Store Owners'. Firearms inventory is determined at the Regional level, with some flexibility at the Store level to adjust for area use patterns. My store too has been selling certain models down and out, though not necessarily just 'black guns'. I picked up a nice NEF 20 ga. Pardner on clearance for 4-H Shooting Sports a couple weeks ago.

7.62x39 ammo is also gone?

Got it stacked high at regular price at our store. The ZQ .223 went OTD long time ago at half off. Still have Fed. & Suprema at reg. price. ZQ 7.62x51 is $10 a box.

Bingo.

The only state in the US where Wal-Mart sells handguns is AK; has been so the 10 years I've been at W-M. IIRC, that is a very high level decision.

No sign of it here, but if enough units aren't moving the any retailer is foolish to tie up space with stale inventory.

1911 really didnt give a specific date. Its been at least 20-25yrs that Ive seen handguns at walmart though. Coincidentally, I actually bought my first handgun from Walmart in Farmington, NM.

FWIW my local WM doesnt sell guns either.

I'm in NE Ohio abut an hour south of Cleveland. The rural stores still carry rifles and shotguns. The store just north of "rural" has dropped firearms a couple years ago, but continues to handle muzzloaders.

I don't recall ever seeing black guns at the local Walmarts here. Just a few of the most commonly sold low price retail version hunting models.

At the same time, we have a chain of farm supply stores called Rural King that now carries a full line of guns at very good prices.

All dependent on the store. There are 3 Wal-Marts within a 20 minute drive of me. 2 of them sell rifles and shotguns but the third only sells ammo and accessories.

I can't recall ever seeing firearms in a Walmart around here. I do remember seeing them in Kmart stores as a kid. Not anymore though.

If Walmart has reason to believe that the liability of selling specific products may outweigh the monetary gain, they will probably change store policy quite quickly. If they feel only certain areas or specific stores fall into this category, policy may change based on that to apply only to those areas. It is also possible that if certain products are not popular in a specific area, they will just discontinue selling those products. I have to believe that Walmart decision-making when it comes to stock is primarily based on profit (if it wasn't, they would have some serious business issues as that's a pretty important part of any business strategy...)

I'd be interested in seeing stats on AR sales...this has nothing to do with the morals but rather I am curious as to see how the scene has changed over the past 30 years. By that I mean I am curious how many people are building ARs versus buying completed ARs. With forums like this, building an AR is much easier and had I not had forums I would not have built one myself. In recent time do you think so many people are building ARs that a large portion of ARs are now being made that way? (hence selling completed ARs may not bring in as much business as it seems?) Most companies involved with ARs sell individual parts these days...

Walmart quit selling "black" guns

Went back to the Jonesboro Walmart about 2:30 pm they had 4 ar15's left .they also had a savage .17hmr for $99.00, I would have bought it but no .17hmr ammo anywhere around here. A friend of mine was buying a dpms .308 ar15, the last one of the .308 they had in stock
