Walked into a Gun Shop Friday and saw this... AUG Clone MSAR

Always a good idea:

Well, I finally came to my senses...

Walked into another gun shop yesterday and saw a 16inch 308 Ruger SFAR on the rack. At 6.8lbs It is LIGHT for an AR10!

It came home with me. I can get more use out of this than the AUG or MP5 clone. It should be a good Deer / Hog gun. More pics later today. For now it will get an Aimpoint Red Dot. I will be looking for an LPVO scope for it.

I have a MSAR flat top that I bought about 10 years ago off someone who worked at Wolff Springs. The rifle has been 100% reliable, but I believe he said he installed all their kits into it.

For well less than $1,000 I got the rifle and about 20 AUG mags for it. It's fun, it's different, I don't shoot it much. AR's always have been and always will be my working guns.

But it just wouldn't be Christmastime without a AUG, P7, and MP5 on the coffee table while I sip egg nog. I believe the AUG was one of the villain crews weapons in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, as well. Movie guns are fun, what more reason do you need than want?

Something else I like about the Ruger SFAR. It doesn't have the ammo restrictions that my M1A has. It will work with all commercial 308win and surplus 7.62x51. It's also significantly lighter weight than my M1A Scout.

I need to order a Griffin Gate-Lok flash hider for it and then it will work with my Dead Air Nomad-L suppressor.

Hey younger people. What do you do with such a thing.
The same things you’d do with any other .223 Remington/5.56x45mm, by far the most popular centerfire rifle caliber in America. Target shooting, plinking, competition, and defense of home.

I’m not a young person (53), but have always wanted a civilian AUG, just never made it a financial priority. I really like the weight distribution of bullpups, and the fact that you can get a longer barrel with a short, very handy overall length. And the AUG is noted for accuracy and reliability, and is well-made.

Stroke it like a kitty cat and dream about something like a modern version of red dawn except with energy drinks and hot potato chips aplenty, and an enemy too stupid to search the basements of urban soccer moms houses to find the resistance fighters.

Like most guns now, it’s just a range toy. Kinda neat but also kinda niche. Just something to show off a bit with really. Looky what I’ve got…
If you really think that’s why people own smallbore centerfire rifles like AR’s and such, I don’t know what to say, except that I’m surprised to see that sentiment on THR.

Good lord.

I’ve had a MSAR for years. Never a problem. It has an honest 5k + rounds through it, not a world record, and all brass cased. It has been taken care of so there is that. Back in the 80’s or 90’s a group of Irish Army troops came to the base to train with another group. They had AUGs so did a show and tell for our guys. The way they ran drills, taking advantage of the short rifle, was very impressive.
