Walmart rifle closeouts

Well went to 3 Walmart tonight. One had a xp 308 wood stock for $184 and refused to check in the back stating she didn’t have time and also she is the only person certified for guns so couldn’t sell one. Two other Walmart had xp camo 6.5cm for under $400 but if I spend that much I am getting a heavy barrel of some sort. One Walmart said a guy cleaned them out at 8am. I did score 500rds of mini mags and 200rds of cci standard for $50 so it wasn’t a total waste. Actually got 600rds of mini mags just got 100 at a separate store.

they looked at me like I had two heads when I asked about clearance rifles. One called a manager, they knew nothing of it.

It's funny, I've been told several times at different Wal-Marts "we don't clearance firearms, ever" then I ask what the tag says ... Clearance.

You just about have to use brickseek.com. Spy a rifle out at a store and watch it on brickseek.

As to clerks who refuse to look and verify stock, get the store manager down there. People are people and some of them want the rifle themselves, some are just lazy and some are truly underwater with work and there are rules supposedly about 24 hour wait for an employee. I never have worked in a retail environment (since college) so I have no idea how it works. But if they will not go look, I bet the store manager can get them moving. The Walmarts I have dealt with on this Search for the Jabberwocky have been decent and helpful. But you have to do your homework.

There is another 7mm RM I am watching, the clerk tipped me he thinks it will go on clearance so I am watching on brickseek, it is still $389 as of a few minutes ago, who knows how this crazy thing works. And the one I bought this morning, it indeed shows it now gone at a selling price of $99. Yes, it can be a PITA, if you want a $99 rifle or a half price rifle then you gonna have to do some leg work.

Edit to add, the reason I am hunting for another is for my boss who does hunter education and they would raffle the rifle to make some money for their instruction. Not just to be greedy on my part.

I went to Walmart two days ago for a bag of cat food unaware of the clearance sale and stumbled upon it. Walked out with a camo stock heavy barrel axis ii in 223 for $79, and a wood stock axis in 3006 for $74. Then at home researching what I bought I found out Savage has a $50 rebate going on.

Filled out the application and it says I am eligible for a $100 assuming I pass review that should take 10-12 weeks. Not believing it unless I get a check. But if it goes through I'll either have to buy a lottery ticket or turn myself in to the police for robbery.

Does anyone have the SKU for the savage axis in 223? i tried a search on brickseek but i didnt see it popping up. That would be a great coyote rifle.

EDIT, I found it, one about a hour away, i will skip there after work and try my luck again

One issue I had with my .223 Axis is the chamber throat was VERY long. Good news was with the full length action and magazine I could seat bullets way out. It was a GREAT shooter though.
Just checked my Howa Mini action recently. If I seat bullets to max magazine length I just get to the lands.

Having a hard time making a decision. I just went to the only local store that has marked the axis down to $49 and I missed the last two by a few hours. Do I go buy they last one in stock At the store I’ve been going to at the $124 before rebate price or try and wait to see if they go down to 49 at this location and risk not getting it at all. Keep in mind I picked up a .243 a week or two ago now for $124 but it was 2 days before the rebate dates started. So I didn’t exactly miss out on a good deal. Just want what amounts to a free rifle after the rebate

Go onlineand submit therebate application! They seem to be allowing ones bought just before! ya have little to lose!

Brickseek shows Remington 700 ADLs in stock in .243 ($99), .223 ($79), and 7mm Rem Mag ($99) at a nearby Walmart, so I think I'll head by later today and check it out before work. I'd take a .243 for myself, and probably buy the .223 for my father-in-law for Christmas/birthday/something along those lines.

I'm trying to talk myself out of it because I don't have room for another rifle and no REAL use for a .243, but dang it, that price...

It helps to develop a friendship with someone who knows guns in the Sporting Goods Dept. (I know, not always an option. In some stores there is no one who knows guns.) I got my Axis II .223, 20" varmint barrel camo stock, Wednesday for $79. And I had the added disadvantage of that gun sat one day at that price before I could buy it. (Company rule. I work at Walmart.) I had been watching them on brickseek after seeing this thread, and the Sporting Goods Mgr. kept me up on the calibers and prices after I talked to him, but this one was a surprise, he wasn't expecting the price to drop for another week. As soon as the 24 hrs.was up, he let me know.

The Remington 700adl is a outrageous deal. Having bought one in 7mm rem mag a few years ago for nearly $400. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I found one in .223 for $79. The $49 axis seemed to have dried up in my area( save me from myself) but I could be tempted into another 700. Taking out a 243 axis and the .223 today To sight in and test some loads I worked up for them.

I'm going to pick up my 30-06 tonight. Will check if they have more. I do wonder how much kick the 30-06 will have. Wouldn't mind having a .223 since I can share ammo with my AR

Just and FYI the two savage facebook groups is now posting SKU and locations. Soon these will all be gone. I changed my mind on fussing with the 308 wood stock. At $184 once I put a new barrel on it I may as well buy a heavy barrel rifle in the caliber I want.
