Walmart rifle closeouts

What does Wal-Mart do if the delay goes too long? Do they return the rifle to stock and refund the money?

Well I stopped at 2 Wal-Mart's today in my county, probably safe to say all the clearance rifles in Pasco County, Florida are all gone. Still wish I could find my receipt, grrr
No money is exchanged until it is a go ahead.

... Wish I could find my receipt

I you go to customer service at the store, they can pull a copy of the receipt for you. You will need to know the day and approximate time and amount. Credit card makes it a lot faster. It's a somewhat unique item, so taking the UPC number with you will certainly narrow it down quickly.

They pull up people's purchases all the time for returns. It only takes a few minutes (plus however long it takes to stand in line). They will give you a screen printout, but will tell you it doesn't count as an official receipt for a return. It's perfectly fine for a rebate. I've done this once a few years ago for a TV warranty.

Yup. In the Vision Center we have to send them over to Customer Service when they want a copy of their receipt for insurance purposes if they for got to get an extra, or lost the original.

The Brickseek website works. The two I bought today were showing limited supply. When I got back to my car I checked the website and it showed out of stock.

The 270 was on display with a price of $298.
The area mgr said she didn't even know that corporate had marked them down more.

Henry big boys in 44 mag have gone down to $168 but good luck finding one I think they were all bought up at the 399 price.

Is WalMart getting out of gun sale? Went to 3 WalMarts in the past week, gun cabinets were all emptied. I saw Axis marked Clearance 2 weeks ago but they were not calibers I want, not Axis fan anyway, I decided to leave to folks who want one, went back 3 days later thinking I have an extra Savage barrel sitting around, can just swap the barrel but they are all gone! One store shows Remington 700 ADL 223 w/scope on limited stock on Brickseek, $79, at the price for couple days, went there this afternoon, only an empty gun cabinet! It still shows on limited stock when I walked out the store! I guess put on hold for someone or just a bait!

There maybe a few stores getting out of selling guns. I did ask a mgr if they were selling out of all there guns and she told me not as far as she knew.

Several of the Walmarts near me have all new stock of rifles. New Savage and new CVA rifles. So, no, I do not believe Walmart is pulling out of sporting firearms and ammo sales but I am sure they are suffering from the inability to restock just like every other store with empty gun racks. I asked the manager of the department at Cabela's why they were so low on hunting rifles and I was told they have orders in but that due to economic stress resulting from the "beer" most of their suppliers are running at about 60% capacity (social distancing, people not coming in to work for fear of the "beer" etc. ). Is Cabela's getting out of hunting and shooting sports? I doubt it and their racks and cabinets and shelves are just about empty, more so that Walmart. I did see a bunch of fresh new Savage rifles on the racks at Cabela's. Interesting but unlike Kimber, Ruger and many others, Savage only builds rifles and shotguns, no handguns, hmmmmm.

Every year the rumor of Walmart getting out of sales comes up.
I had a long talk with the Sporting Goods sales mgr 2 years ago. He said corp places their gun orders in spring. So in early fall they need to clear the racks for new stock.
That's why I checked and then started this thread when I did.
Same thing every Aug/Sept.

Nah - they do gun related clearances every year. Granted this year the prices got lower than I've ever seen them, but just like always they're pretty much just clearing out the old unsold inventory. The Savage Axis rifles being sold all have the old style stocks and lots of the old style magazines. The hardwood versions don't have the Accutrigger like the newer ones from Savage do. The Remington 770 has been discontinued and replaced by the Remington 783.

They're a big company. To us it's the deal of the decade but to them they could lose $200k clearing out old gun inventory and not bat an eye.

Again, you cannot put a gun on hold at Walmart. It might be held for a delayed NICS check, but otherwise not.

a delayed NICS check
What is a delayed NICS check? NICS put the check on hold? Store could not call into NICS? Many gun stores do NICS check electronically these days, WalMarts still do paper and call? I had one NICS background check took almost an hour and I had to apologize to folks waited in the line! I can't imagine a background check takes days. I'm in Ohio, not wait period.

Walmart does not use the CCL to expedite purchases as is allowed by Kansas law. It is supposedly a corporate policy. They do not check the CCL box on the form I am told. This causes me great difficulty because I have a very common name and nearly always results in a hold. Walmart does and will place a rifle on hold while the paperwork is in progress. They have done so for me numerous times. So will Cabela's, so will Academy but they use the CCL when a customer has one. Walmart will not otherwise place a gun on hold aside from that needed for the NICS check.

Apparently you've never had one when you called in. I have. Most understand, but some (Usually the ones that will come back a NO) get testy.
It's when NICS puts a hold on the sale. It means there is reason for them to further investigate. Usually resolved in the same day, sometimes the next. Often it is the same name as someone else who is on the naughty list. Walmart (at least the one I work at) uses electronic checks, I did mine last week for my $79 Axis II .223. Instant proceed.
3Crows is correct, Walmart has it's own policy that does not use a state's CCL in the process. My guess would be is because it does business in all 50 states. So when NICS delays the sale, Walmart puts the gun on hold pending the outcome.

OK. Thanks. When I had the long background check, I thought I bought too many in a year and NICS did not like me anymore! That was my 5th or 6th purchase that year. I asked the gun store owner, he said there is no limit, no worry, he had it from time to time. Since then, I bought a gun every so often to make sure I'm still good in NICS database!:)

Them accepting state CWP instead of NICS seems to be a store by store policy. I've bought from 4 Walmart stores during this and 2 took the CWP with no NICS - 2 still ran the NICS. Ended up getting delayed on my first one and it took them about 6 days before they called back with an approval. As a neat bonus though that first one was priced as $124 when I tried to buy it. By the time I got back in after the NICS delay it was down to $49.

Though a dealer is legally allowed to sell the gun after 3 days if there is no response back, Walmart doesn't do this and will not sell the gun at all until/unless they get back a firm proceed. Apparently they'll hold a gun waiting on NICS for up to 30 days and after the 30 days pass the gun returns to sellable inventory. If you were told something was held for a delayed BG check keep checking brickseek and if it still shows in stock after 30 days go back and check again ;).

I was told by what appeared to be a pretty knowledgeable woman at the gun counter that they are closing out certain models and carrying others instead. The Savage Axis will be replaced by the 110. The Rem 770's are being replaced by the 783 I think. I don't remember if the 700 was also being replaced by the 783.

Also, certain stores now have policies about having firearms on display. The only store I was able to find with any clearance rifles had a completely empty gun rack, but when I asked she said they have plenty of firearms, but they were all locked up in the back do to store policy.

I know that during the riots some Walmarts took their rifles and other items off display.

One thing to remember, it seems that if you are looking for one of there models in a different chamber ask!
They may have it in the back.
Thanks to who ever mentioned Brickseek!
The sight works well! And may help me in the future when looking for items. It also can convince the associated at Walmart that they should have an item in stock per the link to Brickseek.

Could someone kindly walk me through exactly how to filter the results to just see the firearms that are in stock near me? Having to click on each item and click on "Show Offers" is pretty tedious and annoying. I'm on desktop.

Also, how are you supposed to ask about the price of the guns if the website says not to mention BrickSeek when speaking with retailers?

No one said it was easy, tedious is a good description. I go to the retailer on brickseek, in this case Walmart, then use the SKU search and type in key word "rifle" for example then search through the results for the rifle interested in, you will put in your zip and it should populate the search results with stores with the selected rifle in your zip area.

You just ask the clerk to do a price check with their scanner.

Most fo the clearance items are long gone now though there could still be a few in less populated areas. Another way is to see a rifle in the store and then check on brickseek. Enter the SKU from the hang tag. Then watch the rifle in hopes the price drops. That is what I did with my $99 Remington 700 7mmRM and am still doing with another that si still listed at full retail.

Nothing worth doing is ever easy or at least rarely.

I think you probably have to sign up for their premium (paid) service to do that.

Savage emailed me today to say my rebates had been approved. So there’s $100 headed my way in a couple of months.

That’s great to hear. I’ve been a little nervous savage was going to try and pull something. No reason to believe they would but that’s life. Most things that sound too good to be true are, and getting paid $1 to Get a new rifle ( if you got an axis at the $49 mark) definitely falls into that category.

That’s odd since the one associate placed a rifle on hold for me when I showed up and they didn’t have the right people to process the sale. And no, it was not related to a NICS delay as we did not even begin the 4473 since the right people were not present. She scanned the rifle’s UPC and put a note into her handheld device to hold it until a certain date with my name and number. Also, I overheard another associate at the same Walmart tell a customer that if he is working and a customer requests a firearm to be held that he will do so.

I have no doubt that it is not an encouraged practice since it could easily upset customers who see a gun on a rack and have to be told that it’s reserved for someone else. However, that does not mean that Walmart cannot/will not hold a firearm, especially in an extenuating circumstance. “Shan’t” does not necessarily meant “can’t”.
