A little over six years ago, a heart attack took our oldest daughter’s husband, leaving her with 3 teenaged sons. It was pretty darned rough for a while. But yesterday, after a 2-year engagement, our beautiful daughter remarried. He’s a great guy, loves guns and shooting (even though he hasn’t been into gun and shooting nearly as long as his new wife) and all three of our grandsons adore him.
It was a beautiful setting. Our daughter and her fiancé had rented a huge guest house up on the hill, not far from the ski area, 12 or 15 miles north of here. The virus cancelled their plans for a large wedding with a catered reception, but it was still nice. And the rain held off until the ceremony was over and we all got back inside. My wife had driven up there a couple of hours before I did because she wanted to help set things up, and help the bride dress.
I guess by now you might be wondering what this all has to do with guns. Well, as soon as I got there, our middle grandson (age 21 now) met me at the door. He was in a sweat to show off the Sig 1911 he had just bought, and from what my wife said, he had been watching out the window for a half hour, just waiting for grandpa to drive up the road.
It’s a nice gun, used (barely), and he said his friend made him a real sweet deal on it. It’s equipped with laser grips, and it was in the original Sig box with 3 magazines.
At any rate, my wife and I gained a new, gun-loving son yesterday, and we found out our middle grandson is another 1911 enthusiast. Furthermore, our middle grandson’s older brother (a Glock 19 enthusiast) brought his girlfriend to the wedding, and it looks like things might be getting kind of serious there too. So who knows - we might be welcoming yet another generation of gun enthusiasts to the family before too long.
BTW, our youngest grandson is more into bolt action hunting rifles than semi-auto handguns. And that’s okay too - so am I.
