Just when I thought I was getting the herd thinned down close to my liking, I had to notice a great price on a new walnut stocked Browning A-Bolt, Grade II in .308 Winchester.
I am reportedly notoriously lacking in self control when it comes to nice, new, affordable bolt action rifles. My tempered, steel will melted like vanilla ice cream in the sun on an Arizona August afternoon when I saw the $600 price tag.
It should arrive at the FFL in the next couple weeks...:)

Mrs. Poper, though, will completely understand, I am sure....:rofl:

Everyone will probably see more deals like that one. I read the firearms industry as a whole is really down in sales for the last quarter of this year. S&W is also offering money off coupons on select firearms. The implied reason is inflation is taking its toll on gun sales.

Mrs Hugger doesn't even ask anymore. Her frequent comment lately when I'm cleaning one : "is that a new one? "
Mrs Mark_Mark don’t ask and prefers ignorance in my gun collection.

she did surprise me when I ask to used the credit card on a 4 payment plan on 2 suppressor. Her only question was; Any interest on the payment plan… lol… think we are winning

Nice catch! I look forward to your pictures and range report. Grade II wood and the Browning blue in a vastly available caliber can't be wrong.

If my memory doesn't play tricks on me, these rifles shoot well, around 1 MOA. Never owned one myself, but a friend of my father has one in .270 Winchester and he likes his rifle.

I am already loading for it. I have plenty of brass, primers and bullets, plus I recently scored an 8lb jug of Varget.

This A-Bolt should pair quite nicely with my recently acquired 16 ga. Citori Hunter... :D:D:)

A-Bolt is such a nice design!
16ga Citori for some wing shooting!

Life is GOOD!

I loved the look and feel of my A Bolt Medallion, it was one amazing rifle to look at.

Mine was in .338 Win Mag, which kicked a lot more than I wanted so it went away. (It paid the rent for a while, so it all worked out in the end.)

I still have a soft spot for the A Bolt. I think Browning did a great job with that design. I think you’re really going to like it.

Stay safe.

Sounds like your now ready to pare the herd down the rest of the way. Keep a good 22 and what more does one need? Yes, I jest.

Mrs. dartor recently asked me "when is enough enough?" I responded, it's getting close but not yet. I still have about four more on my wish list.
Sounds like a great price on the Browning. Of course, we will need to see photos when it arrives.

My wife usually doesn't even ask any more.Last one she asked about was a Sig P365 carry pistol. It went like this-"is that a 9MM?I want to shoot it.I like the way it shoots.I love the brown and tan color.Do you have a holster for it?It'll be in my truck when you want to clean it."So then I was able to get a P365XL.That all happened 3 or 4 guns ago.

Once upon a time I had me an A-Bolt Hunter (wood) chambered in .300 WSM. Shot great when I developed some hand loads with 180 gr. SIerra Game Kings . Then it sat in the safe unfired for almost 10 years when a friend said he would like to have it. Now he has it. Gun, case, scope, sling, some loaded rounds and lots of brass.
Both of the fired targets attached were the same load, same components, fired the same day by the same shooter (me). The difference is the tighter group's brass and bullets were all perfectly matched in preparation (brass - once fired, sized, trimmed, chamfered, deburred flashole deburred, primer pocket uniformed, weighed) dimension and weight and were seated exactly to length using a competition seater die and RCBS Precision Mic. The other group was just 5 pieces of random brass, random bullets, standard magnum primers and loaded using the RCBS seating die from the standard die set without all the sorting and measuring done for the small group. This was a one-off experiment, so I don't know if it all really means that much. Both will kill deer and elk.

The problem with a wish list is that it keeps getting longer. Congrats on the new rifle. I picked up a couple myself. Mannlicher in 270. Savage 110 WLE in 7x57. Both used. Never owned a Browning bolt gun. I am more than likely missing out. I hope you enjoy it.

LOL! That happened kind of in reverse for me. I bought a 365XL. She was talking about the 365 after one of her monthly "The Well Armed Women" club meetings, so I said shoot mine, see if you like it, blah, blah, blah. She liked it enough to try to talk me out of mine, but I was not giving it up. So she got a SAS version for herself. Seems to like it. I'm not a fan of the SAS sight personally.

You need to take my class on, "Getting New Guns Past the Wife".

Here is a partial syllabus:

CHAPTER 1. - A friend lent it to me to shoot.
CHAPTER 2. - Well, the gunsmith finally fixed it!
CHAPTER 3. - Looks better now that I have cleaned it up, right?
CHAPTER 4. - Was planning on taking you out to dinner tonight!!!

More after your course tuition is paid......
