What age did you buy your childs first rifle?

Bought him his first when he was 2. He's 11 now, its a Winchester model 60, paid $90 at a gun show. It was a little large for him so when he was 8, I bought him a cricket .22. That was perfect, cause he could shoot it without having to wrassle with the weight of a heavier gun. Grew out of it in a year, but now his 2 sisters are using it. It has peep sights, and though a little small for me, its nice to shoot.

I gave my son a Marlin model 25 rifle when for his 12th birthday. He's a great shot and we enjoy days at the range. He's 18 now and a senior at highschool, then he goes to the VoTech the later half of the day. He then goes to work 'till midnight. Kid has a great work ethic. It amazes me how lazy a teenager can be and yet carry an impossible schedule. Oh well, we're going shooting this weekend!:)

My son had an Ithica M49 .22 single-shot and both girls got .22 single-shot Chipmunks. Interestingly, my youngest grandson used his moms Chipmunk a few weeks ago for his first outing. Made me proud. He is hesitant to go again this year because somehow he got his finger in the way of the bolt and pinched his finger. I know it hurt, but it was hard for me and his dad to keep a straight face.

I've thought about this many times. My son is 7 YO.

He now has some interest in "daddy's guns". He knows the rules.

Stop!
Don't touch.
Leave the area.
Tell an adult....and all that stuff....

Nope, plenty of time yet. Many other things to learn for now. I'm in no rush.

ABC's, 123's, tying the shoes, etc, etc, etc, is enough to fill the day for now.

That's just my home.

I cant wait to take my daughter out. Mom may not be to thrilled (who cares). I guess I'll wait until shes about 5. I like to start her early, I feel she's going to be a little Anne Oakley.
