What are you using for home defence? Rifle, Pistol or shotgun?

PGO Mossberg 500 Security (20" barrel, 8-shot tube) w/ #4 shot.

Don't forget to swap out the plastic safely button for a metal one!

12ga 8-shot pump, 24" aluminum tee-ball bat, katana, hands, feet, elbows, knees.

Pistol in the night stand (G22 with a light mounted), and a revolver in my wife's nightstand (S&W Model 66).

If I am sure that someone is in the house, we retreat to the safe room attached to the bedroom. There is an AR loaded and ready to go in there.

Mossberg 930 SPX (First two shells are 00 Buck, next two are 1 0z slugs, and the remaining is 00 buck) backed up by a Glock 22 with a Insight WX150 light loaded with Hornady 155gr Hornady XTPs.

Pic of mentioned gear:

At home I have the Mossy 500 with #4

On the road I just take my little Ruger 10/22 as it is better than nothing and it hides in a duffel bag until it is needed. I figure even it the .22lr is small I can pop enough of them out quick enough to do some damage while minimizing bullets going through hotel walls etc :what:

That being said I used to rely on my TTC , but 7.62x25 is too hot a load for indoor SD I think...

Primary is a MP5K-PDW clone, tax stamp included. I shoot it stupidly well, can shoot it one handed, operate it in the environment I have to defend, and I'm confident where each shot goes. That last part is important.

I'm not worried about the infamous HK full auto incident - that was not a case of defending home or business but rather a road incident gone way, way bad. I don't believe given the facts that prosecution was warranted, but it's not a home defense scenario.

Mossberg 500 persuader loaded with # 1 buck beside dresser. Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 on night stand. Which one I use depends on how much warning I have. I'd much rather use the shotgun in house but would not hesitate to use 45.

I prefer my Mossberg Cruiser with 8 rds of #4buckshot above all, but the pistol and rifle are always nearby. Overpenetration is an issue for me so its hard use anything but the shotty. But I think for a quick effortless HD weapon a good 357 revolver is ideal as well.

Kahr pm9.

I'd like to get a shotgun for HD, but I am worried about it not being secure when not under my direct control.

I also like to have all three ready. A Sig 556 with a tac. light is close. I also have a Mossberg 590A1 with the surefire forend, and a knox stock. It's loaded with Hornady TAP 00 buck shot. The handguns are a Kimber stainless TLE/RL, Glock 21, and a Sig P220. the rest are stored in a safe.

RS14 beat me to it. Ayoob has written a lot about the legal perils of using full-auto for defense.

But with VERY little real world evidence to base it on. There is really just the one case where things went rough.

There are 2 cases, in fact the same guy, where the use of full auto was not an issue in the least.

I know the general opinion is that it's a bad idea, but just keep in mind that it's all opinion, there is VERY little factual evidence to base it on.

Same with 10mm. There is ONE case, Harold Fish, where the type of ammo used came into question. And as with the HK case, the shooting itself was questionable.

The use of 10mm itself was not the hinge point, nor was the fact that a full auto was used in the HK case. Those were things added in beyond the argument that the shoot itself was bad.

I personally wouldn't use one, but that's because I think there are tactical issues as much as legal issues but it's hard to find hard evidence to recommend against them.

Every night there are a Mossberg 500 (18.5" barrel, mounted Streamlight, 5 rnds of 00 buck in the mag, and 4 slugs in the side saddle) and whatever CCW I carried that day within easy reach.

I keep my Springfield XD9 in the dresser and a KT SUB 2000 under the bed, I'll use those to fight my way to either the Mossy 500 or one of the AR's all of which are in the safe.

All of my guns are potential home defenders. What I use would be dictated by the nature of the threat and the amount of time I have to prepare. A pistol is a handy first line of defense but I'll reach for a rifle next. I don't keep a loaded shotgun. If I am not in the woods hunting they're empty.

How long would it take to fight your way to the safe, open and get what you need, and then finish the fight? Just a rough idea, if you please.

Although my 19" barrel 20ga. pump gun loaded with #3 Buck is close at hand, my 1911 Para .45 is even closer.

I'm thinking the .45 will turn a perp into the same threat level as a bag full of sand. And yes, I know there's no such thing as a 1 shot for sure stopper , but since they won't let me set up a couple claymors , I think I have a fair chance with what I got. ;)

My rem 870 with 00b. Some of this is personal preference and what suits your unique situation best. Just about any firearm is better than harsh language.

I'll tell my wife...

...that they've just dragged mud in on her new wood floors...and then I'll go back to sleep..."they" haven't got a chance...and she won't touch a gun...

For home defense?

1. Good neighborhood in a low crime town
2. Alarm signs in yard
3. Alarm stickers on windows
4. Armed alarm system
5. XD40 Pistol or Benelli Supernova 18.5" 12 ga.
6. Anything else at hand (almost anything can be a weapon)
7. Elbows, knees, hands, feet, head, teeth...

well, motion lights and dogs for notification, then a pistol within reach, a shotgun for the left hand, and a rifle on a sling........all that if I have time. But for quick and dirty, 1 of the pistols.

the wife and the kid stay put with the shotgun, and the hero goes hunting with a pistol.

the why, I can clear corners quickly, and the wife is better w/ the shotgun.

I'd prefer to beat the snot out of some fool, but I'd rather get it over with quickly.
