What are your "gun priorities?" What should they be?

After I discovered the perfection that is the 1911, and already owning a Ruger MKII SS Target, I decided pistols were covered. On to long guns.

1).308 Savage 10fp bolt with 10x mildot scope- check

2) Yugo SKS -check

3) Marlin 336 "W" 30-30 -check

4) Winchester Defender 12 ga -check

Followed up with the obligitory herd of 10/22's, some other odd shotguns in 16 & 20 ga, a safe-queen Garand, a bubbaized 1903A3, etc.

Lately, I've discovered the joys of "milsurp" by way of a P-17, and have been eyeing either an M44 or a 91/30, but I really don't want to get into more calibers.

My focus? Between September 1 and Feb 29th (Dove & Quail Season) it is to kill and eat as many of the little suckers as I can. (within the confines of the law of course)

After that time frame, my focus changes somewhat. I continue to try to refine my skills and equipment in pursuit of those fast grey birdies. As well as to improve my skills with all of the current crop of guns I own.

And to seek training when possible, teach when applicable, practice as often as commitments allow, and have as much fun doing it as possible.

Witih the new ability to CCW I am ramping up in that area.

I want a compact auto for concealed carry.

I am experimenting with holsters, but not trying to buy too many.

I want a home defense shotgun, 8 rounder, maybe a pistol grip. I am floundering between 12 and 20 ga.

I would like to move my wife into centerfire. She does real well with her Taurus 9-shot .22lr. Time to get her moving up.

Maybe not related, but I want more handgun defensive training too.

Settling in with my new AK. Having a little trouble with the scope mount but haven't had to time to work on it. With this weekend being Mother's day it will have to wait a little longer. Love shooting it though.

Practice with my 92FS and Taurus 650 is going well, but I will have to choose and holster to stick with so the training can be specific.

As long as the college I work for keeps giving me extra classes to teach I'll have play money! :D

IMHO, our focus should be to own the nastiest, most scary-looking guns possible, and to fight for all of our gun rights by proving that we're responsible with them.

The next priority would be defending yourself and your family.

Anyone that is typing on a computer and reading this doesn't need to hunt for food.

I try to have my bases covered.

I've got:
  • Remington 788 (bolt action) in 6mm Remington w/3-9 scope) for deer, targets, and varmints. (if I ever have the opportunity)
  • Ruger P90 (45 ACP auto pistol) for home defense
  • Ruger Mk. II Target w/red dot (for target shooting and plinking)
  • Ruger 77/22 in 22LR w/3-9x40 (for target shooting, plinking and small game hunting)
  • a very old (1930s vintage, I think) Stevens 12 gauge pump for clays, possible home defense, and possible future bird/rabbit hunting
  • S&W Model 29 (44 Magnum) for targets and possible hunting
  • Yugoslavian SKS for targets/plinking/deer

I have a few others, heirlooms and a collector's piece, but I try to be diverse.

The next gun will probably be a 357 revolver to get the women of the family into shooting major calibers after I show them the ropes with a 22.

No priorities here. i simply buy what ones I want/like. I used to like "small and fast". Then rimfire rifles. The whole time I've always liked single action revolvers - specifically Rugers. Since last November, there's been 3 of them arrive at my house. The next new one may likely be another.
What should my priority be? Whatever, I decide it to be at the time I begin saving $ for a new gun. Currently it's a toss up between another Ruger SA or one of a couple older smi-auto handguns. or another Ruger single shot.

I'd never really given this any thought. Hmmm. While my inventory is at an all time low I've at one time or another had about everything and specialized in nothing. Kinda like my adult life, in which I've done a bit of everything and settled on nothing. I'm not certain if this is good or bad but it HAS been interesting. :)

I have my bases covered as far as carry guns and rifles, so my priority lately has been title II. The prices on machineguns have been crazy for awhile, and are getting more ridiculous. If I don't buy what I want now I won't be able to afford it later. I just bought a FA sear for my FNC, and while it does seem silly to spend low 4 figures for what should really be a $.50 piece of metal, I can sell it later at a profit I decide I don't want it. But I doubt I'll get bored with it.

shooting is fun!

my main focus is more or less self defence. to that end, I have a semi-auto pistol to carry (well, more than one, but ya know), a high-cap semi-auto for any SHTF scenario (AK), and I'll be getting a shotgun next month.

secondary focus is C&R weapons. I've always been a history buff, and that goes right along with it. so far I've only got a couple Mosins, but that'll change soon, once I get off my duff and send in my C&R FFL app.

for what I really want, I feel like I should have:
a scoped precision bolt action
a shotgun, with extra barrels. (short for defence, long for skeet(because skeet is fun, and fun is why I got my first gun (my namesake)in the first place))
a battle/assault-type rifle (currently covered by the AK)
a semi-auto handgun (Beretta92F and Springfield GI .45)
a revolver (first priority is a snubby for carry, then perhaps something bigger)

that would cover the bases for me. the rest would be gravy. I don't hunt, and I currently don't compete, though I wish to compete in the future. the only reason I would hunt would be in the case that I couldn't buy food in the store, i.e. a SHTF situation. so my firearms are basically for my own enjoyment and defence.

I have 2 Glock 19's, 2 SKS's, a Marlin 25N, and a Taurus 605. I feel I need a smaller ccw option (ie: Keltec P32) and a scoped bolt rifle with which to hunt. I would like to have a Fal, a trap/hd shotgun, and more pistols.

I have various types and brands of hand guns, rifles, and shotguns. I have a few thousand rounds of ammo. What I really need is time to enjoy them. I guess that should be my #1 priority. I can afford about any gun I want but my time in this world is finite and limited. Food for thought.

Well my priorities have changed over the years, but the overall philosophy I followed in acquisitions went something like this:

Defense/Food: Shotgun
More Food: .22 Rifle
Bigger Food: Scoped Deer Rifle
Self Defense: High Cap'y Semi-auto Pistol (a BHP, at the time truly high cap'y)
Multitasking: Magnum revolver
Better/More Ammo: Reloader
Home Defense: Mil. Style Rifle
Hobbies: varies from plinkers to precision pieces

My preference is handguns, but I have recently noticed that I have a few gaps in my long gun collection. Namely the absence of a modern bolt action. I have a Mosin Nagant, but that is not exactly what I am looking for. Also need to add a pair of EBR's for me and the wife.

Handgun-wise, I still need a k-frame(have an L-frame, sort of-GP100), and a couple of single-action revos. I guess I also need a dedicated carry gun, of late I have just been carrying the first thing that my hand falls on.

My actual priorities have been focused on rifles, specifically learning to shoot better standing unsupported. Probably 65-75% of my shooting is with rifles. Lately I've been into ARs because they are very accurate, have low recoil, they are light and enjoyable to shoot standing for lengthy periods. I also enjoy my Garand and shooting in the back yard with my .22LR rifles. I do think that my practice with rifles is paying off and I do see improvement.

On the other hand, I feel that my priorities should be focused more on practicing with handguns. Realistically, if I did need to use a gun, it will much more likely be a handgun than a rifle. Having a CCW, I just feel that I have a responsibility to shoot a handgun as best as I possibly can. I do shoot handguns regularly and know I'm a much better shot with a handgun that I used to be. I just don't seem to shoot handguns as much as rifles

I think part of the problem may be my range. Out of six spots, only two are 7 yards and one is 25 yards, Two of those are also 100 yards and the other is also 50 yards so lots of times rifle shooters will take up one or all the pistol spots.

My main focus is making sure I retain the right to own a gun.

A close second is having a well rounded collection, as of right now I am adding AR-15's to the mix and am about to go the full auto route.

My focus is handguns. Dosen't really make any difference what type or caliber. WARNING TO SAPPERLEADER:HAVE A VEEEERY BIG GUN SAFE. My buddy got his C&R last year and you wouldn't belive the deals he gets on those old rifels, mostly out of Shotgun News. At last count he had about sixty. That was before he added three Garands.

magsnubby - thanks for the warning, and I agree I have to be careful. I have one thing saving me though - Im working full time, going to school fulltime, so im tight on money, and have no free time to be browsing shotgun news :). I do have a list already of the first 10 c and r's I's want so hopefully that will keep me amused for the next 6 months at a minimium.
