I do not know about the numbers however...Same weight projectile and same powder and COAL...the .35 should be faster at first but bleed off speed and "rainbow" more. In other words the .35 would make the better short range and the .338 the better distance choice. Unless you want the better SD. But the .35 should have better energy and velocity under 300-350yrds or so.
1. .22 LR. Yes. The Model 70 ought to be issued in a micro-action, chambered for .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR and .22 Hornet.
2. .223 Rem. This would be a mini-action, able to handle cartridges in the .223 to .22-250 range.
3. .260 Rem, but with a fast twist barrel, identical to the 6.5X55 twist. This short action would also handle 7mm-08 and and other .308-based cartridges.
4. .30-06. The same action would also handle .300 WM, of course.
5. A true magnum action for cartridges ranging from 7mm Rem Mag to .375 H&H to .458 Lott.
Geez, not one vote for the .25-06? That's almost a must have, that cartridge has seen a big rise in popularity since it came out. I know Winchester used to offer it because I almost bought one.
But I'm good, I have one of the last Stealths produced in .308 and I wouldn't trade it.
I'd like to see .257 rob., 7mm-08, .260 rem, .25-06 and 7x57 across the board.
Or just more short action offerings all around would be fine too. (Real ones, not the WSM crap.)
Well, I am glad I missed this thread until now. Otherwise I would have waited on the new Safari Express in .375H&H instead of buying a Whitworth Mauser a couple of weeks ago.
FWIW, I think they should have introduced a .260Rem. Like I said before (about the .375H&H, but they lied and said one wasn't coming...their loss) if you make one, I will buy.
Earlthegoat2,no offence intended...it is a classic tho'.
The "original short magnum",still very impressive and has the huge advantage of being able to use most any common magnum brass for cases...once resized of coarse.
Want a bit more power...Use Ruger brass from their "magnums" and go "beltless"....Could do a .35Sambar
Off the top of my head I can not remember if the .300Rcm case is the same length as the 350Rem.Mag. ...
I'd like the see the Sporter model offered with a real barrel for the .270 Winchester...make it 26" and let the cartridge stretch its legs for once. They now show a .270, .30-06, .300, .338, .375, .416 and .458?! Heck, I'm good. Let's stretch those barrels. Okay, maybe add the .264 Win Mag. Now I'm good.
If they'd just make an upgraded walnut featherweight in 6.5 x 55, they'd have my $$ in a heartbeat. 260 would be a great consolation prize, but not as classic.
