If I'm sure that I won't ever plan to load for that cartridge again I'll clean it up and put it up for sale. I've also been known to give it to other fellow shooters.
I'm also on a brass trading site and I have made a few trades.
I run 'em till I suspect trouble. I don't have any brass for calibers I used to shoot but don't anymore, except .30-30, but because I gave the gun to my son, who doesn't reload, I keep it. Oh, .30-06, I got a bunch of brass from my Dad when he switched to .308, I do plan on owning one again someday.
I used to save all of my .357 and .38 Special brass when I was new to shooting, since I knew I would start reloading eventually. When I did start, I wondered why I kept all that .38 brass around when I can get a mild load out of .357 case anyway. Well, now I load more .38 Special than .357, despite having no guns that will only chamber .38s and not .357s.
Bottom line is that you never know when you'll get bored and want to mix things up a little. I keep all mine for that reason.
Unusable brass I toss in my scrap bucket. Brass that I don't load or that I have too much of I clean & store to sell or trade to make my reloading cost me less.
I scrap expired brass, I pay it forward or trade brass I dont want for something I can use. Helping our community is good, but I'm not handing out free stuff to people with 3 posts.
Mine goes in coffee cans and when I get enough to mess with it goes to the only scrap metal buyer in the county. I just sold a bunch and it was brought over $2.00 #. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the check.

Learned of the bullet swaging presses from Corbin and saw some guys turn brass from one caliber into a brass jacket for another. XXX on the "hell nah, never gonna put a primer in it" bag and X on the containers of "yeah, maybe one day I'll have the balls to try this piece out." Someone else mentioned scrap by the pound. If I can't get into jacketed bullets before my piles of cracked mouths weighs more than me, I'll junk it.
With something like 357 or 500 S&W, I don't reload them but they're iconic enough that someone may be interested in making an ornament or jewelry from it. Could black the brass and make a "bite the bullet" kind of dog whistle. Maybe I'll have enough one day to answer a handloader's prayer.
