If you were Heller, and the D.C. police must register your weapon, what would it be?
I would pick the biggest meanest gun that I could find and stilll be vaguely sure that D.C. would register it. Specifically, this one.

The Model 500 from Smith & Wesson is the biggest, heaviest, most powerful factory-production double-action revolver in the world

The X-Frame Model 500 Magnum Masterpiece (T) makes a large-frame Model 629 .44 Magnum look petite in comparison.

DC has stated that it will continue to ban autoloaders.

I don't think that ban is going to hold up for Mayor Fenty.
So I'd go with the highly praised Springfield XD45 with 14 rounds of hot .45 ACP to rely on against Washington's predators.
They certainly are not going to change their carry methods because of any court decision.

Just to really grind it in

EAA Witness in 10mm with the change kit in .45 .40 and 9mm

Look Guys.
I suppose you are just having fun but if any of you are serious then please get real.

We need to set up cases we can win - not convince every judge in the country that we are bunch of raving maniacs.

Just some neighborly fun, Mr_Rogers. Does that little place behind the wall have a shooting range?

Jdude,
It has been pointed out that irony oftentimes does not translate well on the internet. I suspected you were joking but the chance of putting years of work at risk by grasping too far is not a small matter.

And yes, to clarify, in my personal opinion and in my personal vocabulary, I do consider the "I gotta have the biggest gun with the most useless appendages hanging from the rail" crowd to be raving maniacs. Sorry about that, it's just the opinion of a crusty, in this area, totally humorless old fellow.

Smith and Wesson Performance Center Model 327 M&P 8 shot .357 mag which comes with a picatinny rail and then mount a Lasermax Uni-Green on the rail and a Surefire X300 mounted on the Uni-Green.

Anybody who says that wouldn't be awesome isn't man enough to handle it. :p

Mr_Rogers, and everyone else
The previous post was meant to be silly. Apologies for forgetting the smilie. ;)

Some people like AR-bominations, some people like a finely engraved duck gun. To each his own. :D

In all seriousness, if I were in Heller's shoes, I'd buy whatever semi-auto handgun is standard issue with the DC police department and I'd dare them to not allow me register that handgun. Fortunately, I live in California with relatively lax gun laws.

I'd just go with a standard fare Ruger GP-100 in 357 mag. In reality though, since we are talking about defense strictly in the home, I'd load up the 12 gauge with 00 buckshot.:D

Realistically, I'd go with a 686+.
IF forced ,at least temporarily ,to go with a revolver this would be my pick also.7 rounds of 125 JHP Remington Golden Saber packs a heavy punch without suffering from too much recoil for most people.
For strictly home and car defense the 4 or 6" tube.
Concealed carry the 2 1/2" snub.
A really great gun with a terrific trigger.
Good suggestion,JesseL.

That sounds like a great idea. :)

There's a .22 change kit, too, right? Why not get that, too? :p (I may be thinking of the CZ75).

DC has stated that it will continue to ban autoloaders.
They MIGHT get away with banning full-auto firearms. They'll NEVER get away with banning semi-auto handguns. Remember the decision's reference to COMMON firearms. There's NOTHING more common these days than semi-auto handguns. If Fenty tries that nonsense, he'll get another judicial kick in the crotch from the Court. I wonder how he'd feel about doing jail time for contempt?

As I Recall...

In all seriousness, if I were in Heller's shoes, I'd buy whatever semi-auto handgun is standard issue with the DC police department and I'd dare them to not allow me register that handgun.
...Dick Heller already owns a handgun, which he uses at his job as a "special police officer." In fact, it was this, coupled with the fact that the District would not allow him to register it so that he could take it home, that left him as the sole respondent in the case, which was originally Parker et al. v. District of Columbia. The Supremes ruled that the other initial plaintiffs lacked standing.

Fortunately, I live in California with relatively lax gun laws.
Relative to DC, perhaps. Last year, one of my best friends in the PRC, a retired LASD sergeant, drove to a gun show in Phoenix simply so he could see handguns that are not available in California because they are not on the DOJ's approved list.

Mateba, just to give them a conniption?
Really though, it would need to be an 11 round revolver... or maybe an AR pistol with 10rd mag welded in place?

I'd get him a 1911. And, not a fancy pants new one. An old government model, parkerized, 45, wood grips, etc.

Definitely not a weenie gun, and definitely synonymous with Americans and their willingness to fight for freedoms.

*I am not a 1911 fanboy.*

I'm going to agree with .cheese.'s suggestion.

To avoid hang-ups with the city on pursuing a purchase permit, it should be a high-capacity revolver. And since it's for home defense, size won't matter. And the light rail is utilitarian.

I'd say his duty gun first, which is what his original request for a license was for. If it happens to be a semi-auto, so much the better. The decision says that D.C. must issue him a license and doesn't specify what kind of gun. If his original request was for a semi-auto I really don't see how they can deny him a license for it.

I'd like to see somebody try to register a gun, get denied, get their gun confiscated and then sue for unconstitutionality of the DC registrations. At the least, I will financially help to support that case.

That works. I'll help Heller buy it. If they deny the registration, hang on for Heller II.
