What (gun related things) did you do to pass the time for the blizzard of 2011?

Did some filming for that future webshow that I mentioned in my SHOT V-logs.

There's about two inches of snow on the ground here in EL PASO TEXAS... and that's enough to shut down this whole city. And it's less than 10 degrees outside here.

TexasRifleman, when you win the lottery and build that indoor range I'm getting your number so I can join ;)

I'm spending this cold spell walking to and from class wishing I could get out to the range....

Here about 30 miles W of St. Louis -

Ran about 200 patches (not kidding) through a '38 Tula made Mosin......and still getting "blue" patches. Also cleaned a few CC guns and loaded some 10mm XTP.

Spent some time organizing my cleaning stuff, and just generally organizing my gun area in the basement. I also spent more than a bit of time reading and debating about what kind of new gun to get.

Also took a few shots with my pellet rifle in the basement.

Bought a Remington US M1917 rifle. Now I have to wait for the snow, ice, rain, and sleet to stop long enough for me to find the guy's house to do the transaction. Hope his roof hasn't caved in on my rifle.

I read so many threads on the gun forums that I wound up reading one either here or at TFL on "Coyote Recipes". :what: Some of the comments actually really pretty funny.

Online shopping for cocobolo grips for a Colt Gov't 380. Couldn't find any with the medallions.

Once I got the car dug out and cleared enough of the alley so I could go somewhere if the Mrs. insists, I did a little cleaning in the reloading room. Found out its been so long since I've reloaded shoutguns shells that I needed to throughly clean and lube the press.

Did my taxes, ordered an SMLE and some .303 from J&G in anticipation of the return.

Replaced extractor and recoil spring on a 1911 that has been giving me trouble. Hopefully I got the extractor tension right, but I haven't been to the range to test it.
Also cold blued a front sight post that was getting shiny from holster wear.

Installed a meprolight tritium bead on my HD shotgun.

Converted 6 milsurp M9 magazines to work in my Stoeger Cougar. Just grind/file new magazine catch notches 1/8" higher and voila!

Loaded up about 200 rounds of .45 ACP 230gr LRN. Prepped 65 rounds of 30-06 brass to load up for a OCW test. Trying to find a higher velocity 168gr load that will perform a bit better past 400m than the current load. I had some success with 180gr loads, but 168gr Nosler BTHPs are cheaper and more available.

Cleaned up reloading area, made a couple improvements to my reloading bench.

Still to do:

Organize ammo shelf, clean a gun or two, and move around furniture in the living room so I can put down a new (to me) oriental rug.

I bought thousands of dollars worth of firearm related stuff online, including stuff I likely don't need, but was stuck snowed in so bought anyways.

What to do in the Blizzard...

Surf the high road

exercise and rotate magazines

give all the guns a swab and wipe

play guitar

EAT

Well, we ended up getting about 20 inches. So after I cleaned, trimmed, and deburred my 308 brass, I spent several hours snow blowing and shoveling. It was brutal here in northern Illinois.

Loaded 100 rounds of .44 mag, 230 grain gas checked cast lead hollow point pushed by 20 gr. of 2400. :D
Was picked up by my friend who casts these beauties for me and driven 65 miles throught the blizzard to the hospital for my appointment for a spinal steroid injection. :what:
Got home at 3:00, nap for two hours. :neener:
Loaded another 100 rounds of .357, 155 grain gas checked lead flat piont over 12 grains of 2400. :D
Dinner-- 1lb of smoked salmon made monday in prep for storm :p
Like to see the storm break, gonna need some more 2400. :banghead:

Polished on a recently blued rifle getting her ready to reassemble, ordered 10k primers, 8lbs of powder, and 1500 bullets, loaded 500 .357's, trudged out in the cold and shot a few rounds, cleaned gun...That's about it.

Well for me the weather doesn't stop me most the time regardless of temperature. I went out to the range for several hours when it was 4 or so out. Shot a bit. Idk, its always pretty cold here so I guess im kinda used to it. Not to mention I walk to work regardless of weather conditions. Last year it was -10 and I walked 4-5mi that day. my face> :(

It's been a tough January here. More off work than on due to snow. We had some ice yesterday and today, so I loaded the last of my 9mm,deprimed and sized brass for the .45.
Loaded some 12 and 28ga shells for when and if it ever gets above freezing and the snow clears out.
Made my own brass catcher for pistol shooting. Tired of everyone walking all over my brass and crushing it.
Went to the range today and tested the above brass catcher, SUCCESS!

Well, Vern, it got us in this part of AR. I've been cleaning up my new Winchester Garand. Also researching scope mounts for milsurps. Anyone tried an Osprey scope?
