What Handgun Do You Keep Coming Back To?

S&W Model 19. This 4 inch K frame with 357 mag JHP is one of the first guns I ever bought, back in 1986, and is still the gun I keep loaded at home for family defense. I've enjoyed my semi's, but the absolute reliability of this revolver, with the power to match, makes this the one I truly rely on.

The Ruger stainless Security-Six 4-inch barrel.

Couldn't decide which one to buy, so I bought one in each barrel length. Best purchase I ever made, but I had never heard of Ruger when I bought it. New to guns, the price was right. Talk about the luck of the draw!

Back in 1991, I discovered the Smith & Wesson DAO .45's. Since then I have tried Sigs, Colts, Glocks, Berettas and few others. Nothing compares to the reliability, quality and elegant simplicity of these Smiths.

I remember at one point all my guns were in diferent calibers. Then I sold off everything that wasn't a 9mm and .45 to standardize my firearms. Well.... once that happened, the only guns I now own chambered in .45 are my 1911s.

I just cant stray away from them, nor do I feel the urge to buy any other .45 in any other platform.

I have a love/hate relationship with 1911's and Glock's.

Right now i'm in the loving Glock's stage, but i'm already wanting a 1911 again.

Soon, I'm just going to keep them all and switch back and forth as my mood changes.:D

Ruger Blackhawks for outdoors and GP-100 for home defense.

I have owned or still own a number of different handguns, but when it comes to what I put on when I walk out the door. Well, this picture from a older thread answers the question I think.

Well that did not work for some reason. It was suppose to be a picture of my daily carry, showing my three commander sized 1911's I alternate carrying daily.

Love the CZ's myself... but as guessed by my forum name... for practicality I'm a wheel man... love my new air weight J frame in 32 H&R Magnum...

but when all is said & done, my 4" Stainless GP-100 always gets the nod, for everything but conceiled carry...

Over the past 8 years, I've gone through 28 different handguns trying to find what was "right" for me. I've owned pistols and revolvers by S&W, Colt, Taurus, Dan Wesson, Walther, H&K, Detonics, CZ, and Glock.

They used to joke about me at the local guns store that I never BOUGHT a pistol there, but I'd RENTED quite a few.

Looking back on it, there's 2 I kept coming back to time and time again. The 1911 and a 4" .357 Magnum revolver. My collection just felt incomplete the few times that I was without them.

Presently, those niches are filled in the collection by a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec that I built up to how I wanted it, and a stock S&W Model 28 4" revolver. I'm also planning on picking up an SA 4" GI Commander version and building it up to match my Mil-Spec. That'll replace the Mil-Spec as my carry gun.

The 2 ,I can't live with out older (no lock) S&W J frames and 1911 's Rest are nice but MUST have at least 1 of each at all times. Simply unamerican not to.

Ruger Security Six. Can't go wrong w/ a nice 357 magnum that has a great double action, or can be sought single.

Well, SD guns are nice, & I agree with much of what has been posted... but I have to admit that I'm on my 3rd .22LR Ruger Mk-II over the course of 20 years or so. Each of my previous Mk-II's were sold because I got bored with their terrific accuracy - just too easy to hit the bulls (or whatever). But then, eventually...... I would remember their accuracy with fondness, and once again I would long to just be able to sight&shoot - pow/pow/pow/etc....

A really fun gun.
