What Handgun Do You Keep Coming Back To?

single stack 9 mm. One of my early handguns was a helwan 951 that worked well. I've had several single stack 9's since then.

I sure wouldn't mind another Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. I believe I could work around the occasional slide and hammer bite.

Started out with a S&W 686 then onto the 44 mags still like em alot. Went to contenders for silhouette and they are very accurate and have their purpose. Love my Cowboy guns ALL Rugers. Old models with short barrels and engraved Birds heads and the newer 5 1/2" new models. I love em all. I have also had a couple 1911s along the way and never developed a real love for them. Somewhere along the way I bought a model 19 Glock and later a model 17 sold them both to finance other things. I now own a G23 which is on my hip at the moment and will be as often as possible. I will be buying a 32 this week in 357 sig. The Glocks aren't pretty but they work and they are small enough for me to carry. If I could own only one it wouldd be the Glock. My second choice would be a 6 inch S&W 686 with 7 shot capacity.

38 special Diamondback

First centerfire I bought and the gun I have shot the most in the last 30 odd years.

For carry I seem to have settled into the 1911 Government light weight. Smith 1911PD in particular. After many years of Glocks SIGs and others, the 1911 IWB or Smith revolvers OWB (woods) seem to be all I need for handguns. It has been a very expensive adventure to this realization.

(I do still have a couple of XD45s for around the house quick grabs though)

When I broke my Hi-Power clone I broke out my stock 1919 vintage Colt Government Model.

Damn... that's a still a really nice pistol.

And Peter, I envy that Diamondback.

I don't know that I keep coming back to it, but it would be awfully hard for me to leave behind my P90. I actually contemplated selling it recently, and just thinking about not having it around made me a little queasy.

I know there are other guns, but I seem to always come back to my Colt SAAs. And now that I got it back after being rebuilt by Bill Oglesby, why leave?

I would have to say 1911's. I go nuts with them, carry them... swear by them then get side tracked by more modern designs. Then I'll see one I can't live without, and jump right back in.

1. S&W Model 10 -- recent production, 4" heavy barrel. What a shooter. I could spend hours with it and not get bored.

I read these gunslick articles on kustom $2300 1911s that shoot 1.5" groups with ammo they like, think "impressive." But then think, "an M10 costs $410 brand new and many of 'em will equal that accuracy all day with cheapo .38 roundnose or FMJ."*

2. CZ 75B. Just a rock-solid, trusted 9mm pistol. Feels great in the hand. 1000+ rounds without a stutter.

* Which doesn't mean I would turn down a $2300 kustom 1911!

J's, K's and 1911's.

My very first gun was a blue, 4" .38 (hand-me-down). The first carry gun I bought when I got my permit was a 640-1 in .357. I no longer have either.
I have bought, sold and traded all manner of handguns and been through high cap 9mm's; mini .40's; derringers, microscopic .22's and pocket autos in .25, .32 and .380. I've spent time with glocks, PPK's, Beretta's large and small and a Taurus or two...even a Raven .25!
I feel I have come "full-circle" in my tastes. J- and K-frame S+W's in .22 or .38/.357 and .45 1911's are all that really interest me anymore. Oh, sure I still get the itch now and again for some type of 9mm or hand-cannon revolver in 40-something, but I resist buying and stick to the above. If I want variety I'll go shooting with a friend and shoot something they have that I don't. Besides, I could stick to my J's, K's and 1911's and because of all the configurations and finish variations, keep buying for a very long time and never get all of 'em!

Sig 229 in .40. That, and a SA XD-9 subcompact. I have three 1911's and love shooting them --- but I started thinking that the "new guys" had some bright ideas. ("They just too fat!")

Without a doubt, either my CZ 75 BD Police or my Pre-B CZ 75. I've got others but if I need one, I'd reach for a CZ 75 every time.

I have to agree with Vito.

The S&W 19-3. Not the strongest revolver ever made (Ruger holds that title), and not the finest (Colt Python wins...aside from Korth possibly), but as far as I'm concerned, the best revolver I could ever ask for. I love it. A year and a half ago when I bought it, it was my first. It is my favorite gun, of any that i have ever shot, and the only way I will EVER give it up, is if it is to my future children. But I have a good long while before that's ever in the cards.
