What ever happened to polymer AR-15 style shotguns like the Akdal MKA-1919? There were a number of brands for a while, like the Bora Barak BR99.

I remember a fellow 3Gunner bought one and it ran pretty darned good. I remember he paid around $450ish. I thought "I'll wait until they are closer to $250ish and I'll grab one -- they seemed as though they could be produced/sold for a lot less, despite their performance.

I really expected them to do well as high performance/low-priced firearms well suited to things like home defense. They seem to have largely died?

I see clones of them at auction, but I'm wondering at happened to the real thing? What triggered this is I noticed that MidwayUSA is selling one under the Iver-Johnson moniker. Thanks.

They were all made in Turkey, probably in the same factory. Importers come and go, and names change. FWIW they are basically a traditional auto shotgun mechanically, with a detachable mag and a shroud made to look like an AR.

Look up some of the Turkish shotgun makers and you'll see a bunch of them. Landor is one make. I know that because I won a Landor revolving .410 shotgun on Gunbroker and wanted more information on it. There were a lot of evil black shotguns there. Lot's of bullpup style also.

Classic Firearms and PSA are constantly advertising the Turkish AR-style shotguns. There seems to be a dozen brands but are probably really made by just a handful of companies but sold under different names with slight differences.

I feel like they’d really have a niche in the home defense market. You start looking at the performance of subsonic rounds in the 45-50 cal range like .450 Bushmaster, .458 Socom, Beowulf, etc. which are touted as great guns for self defense, “tactical” use, etc, and then you look at the performance of a 12 gauge slug or 00 buck, with the same quick mag changes.... it’s hard to argue with that kind of firepower. Of course, you probably give up the idea of subsonic and suppressed, but I still think I’d prefer the blast of a shotgun to a full power rifle round indoors if I had to choose... given the price they seem like a worthwhile idea to consider.

They all showed up around me apparently. The gun stores around here only have those tactical shotguns on the shelf reliably right now. Not all are box magazine fed, opting for the more traditional tube feed, so I don't know if they qualify for what you are thinking of.
