What have you done in the reloading room today

Wait til we get to Sunday...............................-13 will be the HIGH temp..........!! 😵‍💫

.........................................I know, I know..................................N Dakota sez "hold my beer"..............................!!
I’ve had hypothermia twice in my life. Once at Richmond for spring Winston cup race. 50 degrees in sun but we were in shade for hours in the wind.
Other was 70ish air but 50 degree water off Martha’s Vineyard. Swam out to WW2 concrete gunnery target. Couldn’t swim back.
I’d move to Fla in a heartbeat if wife would agree.

My 18 year old cousin (and great hunting buddy; more like a brother tbh) drown that way…
There's a lot of room there with that light of bullet.
IMG_3332.jpeg still more yet than this according to Hodgdon…
IMG_3367.jpeg I forgot to put this on my earlier post(not trying get off topic) but I did an experiment with my hunting loads. Kind of a drill; wanted to test practical temp stability(and the chronograph kept shutting off in the cold) I kept 2 rounds out until they were the -5ish ambient temperature. And then loaded , deployed bipod and two shots as fast as I could run the bolt. Then repeat with two shots that had been riding in my inside pants pocket and was body temperature. Not at all what the combo is capable of, but in practical “non precision” rapid fire, not bad. Gave me peace of mind.

So faster is better? Why is that? I’ve heard it before but don’t know why it might work.
Fast powders burn more complete at lower pressure, peak quickly for good seal on the case and generally give low recoil, all what your looking for in a wadcutter. The fast peak also obterates the base, and the pressure drops so flame cutting the base is almost nonexistent

Go fast... tightgroup, Bullseye or competition
W231 for the win. It’s the fastest I have right now. I used every pasty that came with the target and it’s still a mess. Fortunately, 38 caliber wadcutter holes are pretty distinct from 22 caliber holes.

Yikes. Sorry.

Post range analysis of the 6.5x55 rounds I shot today most likely gave false pressure signs on the primers due to excessive head space. Loaded rounds were measured from a low of 1.753 to a high of 1.763 at a .375 datum. The fired rounds were coming out at 1.768. That's .015 clearance, more than enough to hammer primers flat... 17051893614249019797945619323202.jpg

Cover the plants ... Who ever left the door open,,, your weather is in Texas starting tonight... But put on the primer catcher for the rock chucker ... deprimed some random brass... Received my RCBS neck case trimmer so will play with that tonight some... Also worked on my pellet gun backstop...

I’m working with leftovers: .40cal. The last of my genuine WAP and some 165gr Berry’s I got in a trade. I have some partial sleeves of primers to use up so those will on the menu too. Cases are in the tumbler. This is going to be cans and bottles ammo so no need to worry about anything more stout than to cycle the action.

I discovered I'm an idiot - my new Lee mold sprue plate got loose, so I screwed it back on, OR SO I THOUGHT, until I realized the sprue plate was hanging on for dear life. The thing then fell apart, fortunately without any lead in it...and I could not get that darn screw back in no matter what! I was about ready to chuck it as broken beyond redemption when a buddy asked me if it had "LH" on the blocks...yes, so? Well, dum-dum, that means left-handed threads...say whaaaa?
Apparently that is what it means. 20 seconds of work and the mold is functional again. All my old Lee molds are right handed..who knew?

The arctic front is moving through my place now. I've already had 2 power outages today totaling 5 hr. Thursday storms had me without power for close to 8 hrs, went out at 2:20 am. Got the fire place running with the insert to heat my house, 2 cores of oak wood ready, if needed. We are not expected to get out of the 20's tomorrow, maybe single digits Tue, and Wed. Freezing rain is expected Monday which can cause major power outages. I have generator setup and ready to go if needed. Just last Thursday it was in the upper 60's.

Sounds like your prepared as one can be... best of luck.

Still stuck in the house, so I loaded a bunch more 9mm. Had to open a new jug of N320, and ran myself out of 124gr plated RN bullets!

Shot .380 loads # 8, # 9, & # 10. Correct, haven't experimented much with it. Decades ago I had one and it shot well with two of the powders I had, AA #2 and W-231.

I used AA #2. Then I got rid of the .380 in favor of the .32 ACP. Traded my Llama .380 for a Llama .32 ACP. Sold my Colt Mustang in .380. A LOT of time went by, and

my wife's father gave her a Beretta PICO. Real nice little pistol. I shot a few of the old .380 rounds through it. My wife just got a S&W EZ .380, so I have tried new

loads # 6,7,8,9,&10 now. 9 & 10 were identical except for the bullet. One was a little longer and seated deeper (OAL was only .005 different), and averaged 25.6 FPS faster.

It was an average 957.3 for the Everglades plated 95 Gr RN @ .975 to .980 OAL, and an average 957.3 with the Fed 95 Gr JSP @ .980 to .985 OAL. Gonna leave the 95 Gr

RN at 757.3 FPS alone and call it good, but will back off a couple of tenths and try the Fed 95 Gr JSP again. AA #2 by the way.

With N-310 I went up to 2.4 Grs with the Fed JSPs and got an average of 800.1 FPS. Remember, the first try was (Load #6) only averaged 523.2 FPS. Gonna try 2.6 Next.

I need to load some of the plated 95 Gr RN bullets with N-310 as well. I don't think I will have time to do these next loads tomorrow, at least not in time to shoot them.

Decapped some 9mm and 380 Auto range brass, as well as the .38 Special brass from today's range trip. I don't shoot 380 Auto, so once I get enough scrounged to make it worth shipping I'll put it on the PIF thread.

.........................................I know, I know..................................N Dakota sez "hold my beer"..............................!!
Our high in central North Dakota is forecast to be -10 on Sunday. And we only have an inch or so of snow on the ground. Really a nice change from last year when the snow was really deep all winter. It's really nice to see all the snow go south of us for a change.

So I guess I shouldn't complain about the cold since y'all northern guys are used to it. But us Okies aren't exactly used to this bitter 6 degree stuff... I've got the Buddy Heater hooked up to a 15 gallon propane tank and running on medium while working on inventory with my pi tablet thing. Slow going with the wide variety of stuff dad and I have...
Edit here is my bullets inventory.

It's nice have a dedicated device to just fiddle with this type of thing.

Primer inventory. As you can see small pistol, and to a lesser extent, large pistol, is in dire need of a re stock. We do have about 300 primed 9mm cases ready to load I think, we'll have to double check the neck flaring.

Here in TX most don't know how to drive on wet roads, so forget icy roads. They think since they have 4x4 they can drive on anything and go anywhere. They forget one minor detail is that you have to be able to STOP. I think the ground is too warm for ice to form except on bridges right now. I use to do work for the north slope. Average low is -30F. Did most all of my testing at -50F with some at -75F. I still have my arctic suit, rated for -50F. You can't even put the thing on till it gets <32F, other wise you will sweat even with all the vents opened. Still got to deal with your limbs, hands & feet, are the first to go. Any temp in the -25F range is very dangerous, you can frost bite your lungs if your not careful. Filtered air is required once you get down to -30F. Had to use it a couple of years ago when we go down into single digits to help a neighbor feed his cattle. He had a knee replacement and could not get around. Diesel engine equipment owners found out the diesel fuel jells when it gets cold. We normally don't get the #1 fuel here since we normally don't get cold enough.

Nice little setup. I think I would have just used an old iPad and be done. Nice inventory on the LR's. Which is the only primer I'm low on but do not have a gun that requires them. Except one but I got the SR primer brass for it. I have a 6mm Barrel blank setting in my shop waiting for me to machine now for over 2 yrs now. I've resisted machining it till LR primers comes more available.

I manage about 70 swimming pools here in Dallas... I was out all week prepping everything. A lot of the customers are shell-shocked from the bad freeze we had 4 years ago... that destroyed everything... so I've got to be on it. I've only had one call so far... but we've got a long way to go.

Waaaaaay too cold in the garage for the sizing I wanted to do today, so I may piddle upstairs with the .308 or .41... assuming I have time.

This is what's going on right now outside, colder temps but way less wind. Back to the bench I go!
