What have you done in the reloading room today

Sorting brass from today's session for the tumbler. Glad I went to the max on that True Blue and the 240 Acme. It shot very well from both my GP100 and Super Blackhawk 44 Mag. Looks like another good load for the books, and man I've got some flexibility in 44 Special with components on hand.
Also pulled all my 308 brass from storage, new rifle coming any day now, and I'd like to start getting prepared for that. I've got a massive inventory of 168-180gr rifle bullets to play with there, and most of the popular propellants, so it'll be a busy spring in my laboratory this yr.

Well, boss's chronograph showed my first 9mm load rocking 4,100 fps. Either I put more than 3 grains of HP-38 behind the 115 grain lead bullet, or his chronograph was acting up. Since the rounds weren't ejecting, I suspected the latter. The next 3 shots showed 4,100 and 1,400, so I decided to use other data. The next load cycled for me, but not my wife, who has tiny hands. Moving up, it cycled fine, but terrible groups. I ended up with a near-max load from Lyman for 124 grain lead bullets. The next step up was in Hogdon's range, but my OAL was shorter. First shot felt off, so I quit. Also worked up some 155 XTP's for my .40 S&W M&P. Bottom load was shooting 4" low at 10 yards. High load was peppering the bull. So, got those two loads figured out. Came home, pulled the rest of the hotter loads from the Shadow, and loaded up enough XTP's for the M&P mags, and enough light Shadow loads to set the sights next trip.

Loaded 20 45acp--Winchester brass, 4.3gr Bullseye, plated 230gr RN @1.260"

Also loaded 17 Beretta 9mm magazines w/ten each of 115gr RN for next range session but not sure when that will be. Life is in the way right now.

Haven't shot Berettas in months. These will be lightly-modified 92FS & 92D and a 92 Brigadier-Tactical.

My FS is dead stock.
I didn’t know the Brig’ was a 10-shooter.(??)

I will be testing the Argie primers in the FS and FEG when they come in. 115gr BiMetal RN over 4.5gr No.2. Proven loads; unproven primers.

I also have a stock 92FS compact & stainless 92FS Brigadier. But after I bought my Brig Tach I really liked the look of the rounded vs. squared trigger guard and the shortened/crowned barrel so I sent to WC. The 92D was an old St. Louis PD issue I bought at a gun show for $100. I had them spruce it up too.

Brig isn't a ten shooter, but my OCD is. Mags are/were 17? Also have a Centurion which for sure are 17. Standards are 15 I think.

I look forward to your primer results. They will be the tie breaker for me. Cause while I know they'll work in a 1911 with it's crushing firing pin force, I'm not sure about in a Beretta.

Installed the new proximity sensor on my automated Master Caster.
I did some fine tuning and cast 1.000 230gr RN .452".
I will make some lunch while everything cools down and if all goes well I'll run 2,000 115gr RN 9mm

Nice pile of Boolits! I told my casting buddies that we should have gone in on a casting machine years ago and each of us buy a set of molds for it. But we didn't.............!
Looked at ordering Ordered a magnifying lamp for the bench, so that I can see headstamps. I swear, getting old really sucks...
Getting old, yup! I bought one from Amazon about a year ago. It has proven to be a great idea!

Thanks,

I didn’t plan on buying one.
During the Wuhan lockdown I was looking at a Star Lube Sizer a guy was selling. It had both the heater and the bullet feeder setup.
He said he wouldn’t sell the Lube Sizer without selling the Master Caster.

He sold me everything for $1600 Canadian or $1200 USD with 3 molds and 6 sizers for the Star along with 40 sticks of blue lube.

My 30-30 Handi rifle took a header a few years ago and the rear sight blade disappeared, so I scavenged the rear sight from my 357 barrel and installed it. (30-30 takes priority)
Loaded some 30-30 with Rem brass, WLR, 110 Sierra RNSP with 20 grains H4198 to mimic the 30 carbine.

Swapped over to the BL550 and loaded some 9mm Luger with GFL brass, Rem 5-1/2, 3.4 grains W231, SNS coated .357” 147 FP @ 1.125”.
The first 2 rounds wouldn’t plunk in the PCC, so I reduced them to 1.105” and dropped down to 3.2 grains.

At the range the 30-30 shot 5” right with the rear sight all the way left. Evidently the header bent the front sight. Time to do some pounding.

The Ruger PCC did not like the coated 147s, 2.5” @ 50 yards. Same as all the other coated bullets. Funny, it prefers Xtreme 124 plated even though they are .354”.

It’s been a few years since I bought any components, I refuse to pay $115 for SPPs, but I think it’s time to buy some RMR 124 match winners from our friends at RMR.

So I carefully assembled my 49 3x and 1 1x fired batch of Norma test brass. Somehow a nossler snuck in the batch and I caught it. Used 45.1 grains of aa4064 with pulled 168 nosler CC. There are only 3 pulls left so I'll use those to fire form the next batch. This is my second loading of this group and the single case was quite crunchy and had a cbto of 2.220. The rest of the batch wasn't crunchy at all, and had a cbto of 2.213 +-.001. The bullets did not have any seating stem rings like they did in round one... conclusion is that when using extruded powders at 100% case fill fire forming has a big impact. With lower density loads like when using tac fireforming has a less dramatic effect...
