What have you done in the reloading room today

My USED rcbs uni hand primer was missing the large parts and they sent them for free ( thank you RCBS!) so I primed and belled 50 cases. Ready for my PC’d western bullet 240 SWC Kieth bullets courtesy of AJC1 ❤️. Also my new 44 Lee factory crimp die came In. Going to whip up another 50 for this run IMG_4140.jpeg

I have some terrible news for those of you that love to read my chicken scratch hand writing, and decipher my lists of load speed data.... I was blessed with the opertunity to get a Garmin and it's inbound.... some things aren't as sad end but a new chapter 😁 now I get to test if it's easy enough for a Silverback to operate.... Shoot. The only thing wrong with your handwriting is you’re not educated enough. Wait till you get your PhD. You’ll write so terrible even a pharmacist can’t read it. 🤣

Congrats on the new toy!

"As The Bullet Spins"...next chapter!
So, the saga continues. Those pesky .44-40 cases I primed last night were just begging to be loaded, so I obliged. I figured I could use the Lee bullet feeder, as instructions said will work with cast, plated, FMJ and HP bullets. And .427 cast bullets are awful close to .429.
So I filled to tubes and chucked up a .44-40 case.
To make a long story short, NOT. Not after adjusting the die, not after moving the ball bearings from upper holes to lower. Just...not.
To keep the story short, I ended up doing it the old fashioned way...single stage. Once I stopped with the monkey motion, everything went smooth and I had 50 rounds of .44-40 lickety-split.
7.0gr of Unique (Winchester '66 brass frame rifle) topped with the Hunter's Supply 200gr .427 cast bullet.

Looking forward to hearing about this! I have a 35P that I'm happy with but it takes a little time to set up.

Sized, trimmed and chamfered 23 pieces of Hornady .243 Win brass. When I started reloading I bought a number of component lots, many of which had small numbers of items. One of them was 23 100-grain soft point .243 bullets of indeterminate brand, and another was the aforementioned 23 pieces of brass. I haven't loaded bottleneck ammo in a few months, so I'll take this opportunity to refresh my memory of all the steps. I'll put these together with a starting load of a powder I need to use up and never really performed well in my rifle, and use them as foulers.

Could you post a close up picture of your cases? Your flare looks excessive.

I’ll show you tonight when I get home. I don’t feel it’s excessive. Might be optical illusion. The beveled projectile sits in there snug. Doesn’t hand seat to the lube groove. But has a nice pop when you pull the bullet. I zoomed in on that pic. There might be some residue on some that makes it look excessive

Back to burning up cases again. Trying to clean up a buddies brass supply. I've got him in all RP I picked up at 300 pieces. Now I'll cycle through the supply 100 at a time and anneal them. Not fancy....View attachment 1208271

Watching you reload necked cartridges got the wheels turning. I gave up on them in the late 90s and decided only straight walled carts from then on. But I've been thinking about 223 for quite a while. I can see me going down that path later this year, or early next. First I have to get my 9mm plinker semi-auto rifle, then the Colt 45 Lever. THEN, the 223.... but it's now on the agenda!

Because if a Silverback can do it, anyone can... 😁. It's just a matter of procedural steps and compliance...

So true. So simple a caveman can do it. If he had the right tools. ;)

I reloaded 7.62 x 39 back then but only a few times per cartridge because I never wanted to get into annealing. I never got a cartridge stuck in a die, but I just didn't like Necked carts back then. Since then I got into welding and especially Oxy/Acetylene and brazing, so comparatively, a propane torch or two is a piece of cake and a lot safer than Oxy/Acetylene bottles sitting in my garage. I would actually enjoy annealing now. And lubing and sizing Necked carts no longer seems like a pain to me. Rather, it's more steps that I would actually enjoy these days. Age sometimes has advantages I suppose.

Well, I went to the loading bench, started to set-up for more .38 spl and decided, ahh, what the heck. Popped a cold one and did some yard work. Did that for about 30 minutes or so, and thought, WTH are you thinking!? Straight back to the bench. Whoo, I've been saved! .38's in progress!:D

A man after my own heart. I am sitting at the bench now (love having a Chromebook at the bench after all these years). I did some horseback riding this morning, then was browsing the net for 45 Colt Lever Guns. Finally decided It was a good day to load 38 Spl.

Loading some 38 Spl for SWMBO. She has a Taurus 357 Mag wheel gun that she has not handled in a long time, so minimum starting load 110 gr JHP with 4.3 grs Titegroup to get her used to firing her pistol again.

Amazon just delivered my Lyman Case Prep Multi-Tool REPLACEMENT. The one I posted a few days ago was missing the pocket reamers and cleaners that you see in the bubbles on the lower right of the packaging. I really thought this one would be missing them as well as the package is not well designed and opens on that side to let them slip out. But they actually are in there. Now all I have to do is send the original one back.

I don't use any of those bits, but you should get what you paid for...

Heh, heh. Browsing the net net for .45 Colt lever guns, heh? Wellll, what sort of info do you need lad? Always here to enab,....uhh, help.

No enablement necessary. I am getting one in about 3 months. I am picking up a Hi-Point 9mm semi-auto rifle for plinking tomorrow, I really have to start using the mounds of 9mm components that I have stockpiled. So the Colt Lever is on a 3 month hold. 4 guns a year was my oath to myself ..... and SWMBO. ;)

I am still semi-lamenting that I sold my Marlin 44 Mag Lever (10 years ago) only because it was a Marlin. I have been looking at 45 Colt Marlin Levers to mend that lamenting.

But it's EARLY in the shopping. Lots of time to decide on which brand.

Thanks for posting the close up. Must have been the lighting and angle. The cases look fine.

They have evidently changed some of their policies. I ordered my Lyman case trimmer from them, and it showed up with no pilots. It was supposed to have nine of them. It was supposed to be one of those repackage deals of theirs. I tried to get them to just send me the pilots. They would not do that. They told me to just throw that one away and they would send me a new one. I told him I didn’t really want to do that. So they refunded my money and told me to just throw it away they did not want it back. so I took nine dollars of the refund, and bought the pilots… I ended up with the trimmer for nothing. 🤣🤣
