The title pretty much says it. I'm looking for a quality IWB holster for a 3" 1911 with Crimson Lasergrips on it. With the seeming popularity of the Kimber factory model, surely there are some folks out there with recommendations. [FWIW, mine is a Colt New Agent, not a Mimber :neener:. Yeah, yeah now somebody can crack on me for "relying on a laser since I don't have any sights" - touche'.]

For my fullsize 1911 I've got a MS VMII that carries great. It's just not much fun for me to sit on it all day driving around as my current job has me doing. I'd prefer a similar rig for this compact, but I can see it might be able to find a hybrid leather/kydex one to accomodate the laser hump. Of course I don't want a two year waiting time, but price is not so much an issue.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I got a Cross Breed Super Tuck for my Kimber Crimson Pro Carry and it's the best holster I have ever had. It's comfortable and hides the gun very well under about any cover garment. It works for all barrel lengths too.

Does the SuperTuck hold the pistol such that the grips are above the kydex? It looks like Tucker's version does. The laser would be a non-issue if that's the case.

I had a supertuck for my P99 and liked it a lot. I sold it though when I dedided that pistol was just too thick (for me) to carry.

The laser is above the kydex and is not an issue. Just put a note with your order and they will make sure it clears. That's the nice thing about a custom maker, they will do little things like that. I didn't specify and mine works great with the laser.

Dude, I don't what to say if that VM2 isn't cutting it. When I saw the title, I immediately though "VM2!" until I read your post. I have two and ordered a third, it is basically my default holster for everything now. If I carry it, I have a VM2 for it.

They make a new one, I talked to them about it. It is only for 1911's, they may stop making it but supposedly will be taking orders for the rest of the year. It looks like the VM2 but it is built like the Heritage, two ply leather with the metal in between.

Then you got Mitch Rosen, quality but they cost more than Milt Sparks. Kramer makes leather holsters real close to here, they always have table at the gunshow (considering each holster is like $100, there is around $10,000 worth of holster on the table, more under it). They are well made, but kind of rough for the price. I'd stick with Milt.

Funny, my wife was watching this chick flick (I won't lie, I was watching it with her) and Anne Hathaway said after being tricked to putting on more weight before her wedding, "You don't change Vera (Wang, the dress maker) to fit you, you change you to fit Vera!"

So, I lost a some weight last fall/winter, and it DOES fit better (the holster, not the dress smart@zz!)... Oh, and I'm guessing since you have a Milt Sparks, you know the importance of a real gun belt and getting the loops the right size for the belt.

For custom Kydex, try calling Bladetech (I have their catalog, they make a LOT of stuff, I plan on getting one for my G20 with the light, the SHTF pistol I guess). They make ALL kinds of stuff, even a hybrid. There is a place in Tacoma that does custom Kydex too, they even said I could bring in a pistol and have it done that way --but they are local for me. I can't recall the name, but I searched and found Bladetech is even closer! Right down the street! Definitely having it custom made now, the fit will be perfect.

Lots of folks swear by that Crossbreed, but when I look at it I see a much cheaper version of a VM2 for the same price --and you can get the tuckable clips if you want as well (they used to come with them, but when gas and everything went up, instead of raising prices they just started charging for the extra plastic clips --pretty slick). But if it works, hey, right?

If the VM2 would work, believe me I'd use it. The hump of the laser wont pass into the holster. With the double thickness leather there, I don't see effectively reshaping it to make it work.

I'll surf over to Bladetech and see what they've got.
edit: eek! unless several folks swear up and down those IWBs carry well, I just can't see those spreading the load very well.

Thanks for the tips.

It is only a 3" 1911. You've been carrying a 5" pistol. How much of a load is that New Agent that needs to be spread out?

Just enough for comfortable, all day carry. If you carry in one of those I'm all ears.

I don't like cross breed simply because I feel the owner is shoving religion down his customers throats. Theis holster are real nice and not loaded with religious papers and design.

Question common to both of them- do they hold a 1911 pistol high enough that the grips never enter the kydex?
While I'd rather not get a sermon from anyone, I'll buy a holster from a Christian, Muslim, Sikh or anyone else (maybe not a LDS :uhoh:).

gunowner: A buddy has a galco for his EMP i've been meaning to try out. "Mimber" is a tired old joke commenting on Kimber's use of MIM parts.

For inside the waist band, IWB, I prefer Horsehide or lined leather. And that horsehide/leather is usually Milt Sparks.

Most of my VMII's are horsehide, and I now use Milt's HR-LTD for my 1911's, 5" 41/2" and 3". (the HR-LTD I last heard was only available for 1911 types) They are leather, but use a membrane between the leather. I think of it as a very thin VMII.

My primary CCW/EDC is a Colt LtWgt Commander these days, and on occasion the Springfield EMP 9mm. Both ride very well. I can literlally sleep with them on (and often have) with the guns in them, and have absolutely no discomfort. The holster for each is a Milt Sparks HR-LTD black with the CrimsonTrace notch.

I got my young shooting buddy a VMII for his Glock 19 a Christmas or two or three years ago. He never believed the "hype" about Milt Sparks or the VMII holster. That's all he will wear now and understands, it ain't hype. There a few other high end leather folks that make good stuff too.

A lot of Kydex too. My problem is I always broke them. Tried and have a lot of them. One problem I have, is living in Arizona. Sometimes the VA simply will not see reason, and I can't take my Gun into the hospital (Technically it ain't allowed in the parking lot either. That often has it sitting out in the Arizona sun for up to 6 hours. Not good for plastic/polymer holsters.

I like and swear by Milt Sparks. Got two more on order right now.

For OWB non competition I use a Safariland 6377/6378 ALS. and for competition I most often use in order SideArmor, Comp-Tac, or Blade-Tech.

Figure out your how and why, then order the best quality you can buy. When it comes to holsters, there is no one and only, except for that individual.

Good luck.

Fred

*ding, ding, ding*

We may have a winner. I had no idea MS offered a "CrimsonTrace notch".

Thanks Fred.
