What is an Alternative to Hornady One Shot Cleaner & Lube

I like One Shot as a spray protectant because as a polymer coating, it is non-oily and does not gunk-up, yet it has also demonstrated good corrosion resistance. Compared to something like Ballistol, Rem-Oil, WD-40, Breakfree CLP, or an oil, grease or synthetic lubricant, it remains dry and dust does not stick to it. My arid environment is more dusty than rusty.

As a cleaner, I don't think One Shot is better than Non-Chlorinated Brake Parts Cleaner. I don't think much of it as a lubricant, though the polymer does reduce friction. I use an oil or grease where lubrication is required. But I still like One Shot as a spray protectant.

I spray my reloading dies, the outside of my revolvers, I'd spray the bore of rifles and shotguns with it and then run a dry patch through. I spray my knives with it and wipe them down. I spray parts and tools going into storage that might not see the light of day for years.

I'm aware of the health risks of n-hexane, but I can use it in a ventilated area or outside and wear nitrile gloves. Once the n-hexane has evaporated and blown away, the polymer doesn't continue to present a health risk that I'm aware of.

The thing I don't like about One Shot is that it's hard to get. The only source I have is online and it's been $22 for a small can for a while now. I used to get it for $13 to $15 which was a lot already. I need an alternative.

I use Hoppes as a cleaner/solvent, and Mobile1 30w as a lube.

Tried a ton of other stuff over the years and this seems to work the best for me.

Eezox

Eezox

Looks like the right stuff, but it's even more expensive than One Shot

Eezox is great stuff for a rust preventative, but its not a cleaner. I first got turned on to it when I bought my first Seecamo and they recommended it as a CLP type thing. I didn't find it leaned or lubed very well though. I do use it on the guns, tools, ect that I worry about rust with. Havent found anything better yet.

I’m just listening in. I too like the Hornady OSCL but the price is getting out there. They used to make an “Extreme” version as well.

I use the WD40 Dry Lube or equivalent where I don’t need a cleaner, like Mags.

I also first found out about it on the Seecamp forum (great forum but it is gone now)
EEZOX is also in the "toxic" category. It contains TCE (same as break free) it is one of the best solvents and also has synthetic oils It is a great rust preventative and cleaner. It only takes a little bit.

There are also a gazillion tests and you tubes out there. Lots of snake oil,
But moving on. There are a gazillion products out there. Many contain TFE (Teflon) so when they evaporate it stays behind.
For the OP it depends on you primary use, doesn't matter, just use something

The best test was on Ron's outdoor blog but it doesn't come up anymore

I just use old #9 and then Breakfree CLP

I use carb cleaner to clean things not plastic. It works well for me. Also I use a Teflon dry lube that I got some time ago. The can has lost its label over time but I'll try and find the name and get back. I would thinl any dry lube with Teflon in it would work as well.

I have been using Ed's Red as a cleaner/lubricant, short term protectant (on frequently fired guns) and EEZOX as a long-term protectant (for guns that are infrequently fired) for getting on to 20 years now.
No disappointments or regrets (except that I didn't discover them earlier).

I now use Honaday Unique as a resizing lubricant for cases (where needed). I had used the old RCBS and a rag until I started to develop repetitive stress injury in my hands from wiping it off with a rag.

I use 3-in-1 (or its Sears equivalent) to lubricate the moving parts on my press and other accessories. I also use it to lubricate the exterior of my dies about once every five years.

I clean plastic parts with the Windex-like cleaner Walmart sells.

While I do use other cleaners and lubricants in my garage-shop, none of them (nor the rags/towels used there) come anywhere near my reloading bench.
