I love my 629PP. Accurate, smooth and reliable. I have a titanium ulna and the port takes just enough edge off for my limited strength and range of motion.
Pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 629 with Magnaport dual trapezoid porting, bead blasting, polished and jewelled hammer and trigger, crowned muzzle, and Herrett's stocks in coco bolo.
I only own 2 handguns that could be remotely considered "big bore", those being my Glock 21 and S&W 681 in .357 magnum..
My favorite of the two changes constantly, so picking my "favorite" one is going to be nearly impossible.
A "big bore" that I'd like to add to my collection would be a .454 Casull or the new S&W in .50 cal... You wanna' loan me the money.?!
That said, I most prefer my 7.5" 357 version, because it's just so fun for shootin IPSC (that tube seems to take forever to clear the Sparks HSR....) and it doesn't get as hot during long field courses.
I like the fact that weshoot2 is also a Redhawk addict!
It's a toss up between my Super Redhawk .480 7 1/2" and my Redhawk .44 5 1/2".
Both are a ball at the local range - real head-turners, especially when I unload a cylinder full of .480...quickly...double-action...controlling the recoil...with a big smile on my face!
I always have someone coming up and asking what kind of beast I am shooting. Really enjoy the big bores.
I'm thinkin' that a SRH .454 is the next purchase!
I always liked the Colt New Service, in 45 acp or 45 Colt it's impressive, funny thing is it's so heavy that it doesn't kick much, hardly at all compared to a 1911. Wish there was such a thing as a New Service in 44 mag.
I know you all will laugh.. but one of these days I'd like to get an Automag. I just think they are really neat weapons.
I don't own a lot of big bore handguns. I have a 4" Model 29, a 3" 629, a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt, and a Super Blackhawk.
I would have to say my faviorite is the 7 1/2" Super Blackhawk. It is kind of a pain to carry on the belt, although I did so for several years when traveling off the beaten path. But it is a very strong gun, and mine is very accurate. It is just one of those guns that is a real pleasure to shoot for me. I don't think you can really describe how some guns just seem to be the perfect thing for you.
has to be 629 classic 6" barrel
most importantly-pre-agreement
have luepold gilmore red-dot scope on it-used primarily for whitetail-took some getting used to
300grain winchestor premium hunting loads
will shoot the new .50 cal smith soon-can't wait
It's big, comfortable and very accurate. It's versatile too. I can shoot cheap .45 Colts, hot Colts and mild to wild Casulls. It's a good car gun, but too big to conceal.
For carry: Glock 36 - light, compact, powerful enough to get the job done.
For hunting and target work: Ruger Redhawk, 5½" barrel, stainless, in .44 Magnum - particularly with Garrett Hammerheads loaded. Those loads pack a kick and a half!!!
For pure downright fun: Ruger Old Army Vaquero, in stainless steel. 30 grains of black powder behind a .457 round lead ball. Sheer shooting pleasure!
