Anything deer size and smaller; Wby Vanguard synthetic in 243win with a Prostaff 4-12x40. It fits me just right, is easy to pack, and probably has the most developed confidence of any of my others.

for years this Remington pump carbine in 3006 has been a main stay.

Remington 700 Mountain Rifle DM in 270 Win with a Leupold Vari X II 3-9 X 50. Been my primary hunting rifle since about 1996 or so.

Most of my hunting is hiking, cutting hills and glassing with a very occasional shot. For that kind of hunting I really like my Kimber Montana, it's light enough to not be a burden while I'm meandering around, and with a little extra weight on the muzzle, it settles down better than it should for shots in the field.

Last couple of years it was a Ruger #1 RSI in .243 win.
Before that a Contender carbine in .35 rem.
This yr I went with an old 760 ADL in .35 rem.
Want another #1............and for some odd reason, am interested in a Ruger American in .450 BM, in a Magpul stock with an Anarchy bolt handle change.
Think my LGS actually has a like new Ruger. Somebody needed Xmas money I reckon. See if I can score a deal.

Far too subjective. On a cold fall day in open ground I love my .270 rem 700 since I have lots of fond memories with that rifle.

But if I’m not feeling like walking far (seasonal allergies amplified by being asthmatic) then I think about the last few years my granddaddy hunted, often with just enough energy to walk from the passenger seat of the truck to the tailgate. Those days I carry his marlin 336.

Then there are the days where I just feel like having some time in the woods for no particular reason. Those mornings I carry a Marlin 60 squirrel stock rifle and think about all of my grandparents stories of hunting as kids, and the story of my grandma, and my great uncle climbing a tree to catch a flying squirrel... with show-and-tell on the scar where that flying squirrel took a chunk out of grandmas hand, and uncle Richard fell out of the tree holding the squirrel. Their true story makes the Mississippi Squirrel Revival sound like a walk in the park.

My dad has a Ruger 44 magnum (sporter) I like. But he won't let me scope it.
I took a deer with it, yrs ago. Hasn't been shot since LOL

hookeye, it is. I put it on as its comb is higher than the 7600 wood and better for me with a scope. the places I love to hunt are very thick in most places and most shots need to be taken very quicky and a good cheek weld is a must.

My favorite hunting rifle has only shot one critter. Did a great job though. Rem .270 Win, Rem 700 CDL Stainless Fluted with after-market stock, pillar-bedded and Timney trigger. Shoots 1/2 MOA. Took the 860 lb. moose at 270 yards through the lungs with 140 grain Accu-Bond...one shot-one kill.

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 6.5x55. It shoots a 140 gr Nosler Partition into tiny groups.
Topped with a Nikon Monarch 4x40 fixed power scope. So far the scope has been more than enough.

I have 2 a 58 cal 1862 pattern enfield carbine and a rem 700 sps with Timney 512 trigger topped with bucaster 2 4-12x 40 bdc in 7mm-08.

Last summer, I bought a Ruger Amercian Ranch rifle in 7.62 x39. It is a fine little gun and will keep up with a 30-30 properly loaded. I found a good cast load and used the rifle for the first day of gun season. By 8:30, I had a nice doe down with one shot at a range of 25 yards. I think this will retire my Remington 7600P in .308.

When I deer hunt I use a marlin 336 in 35 Remington with the buck horn sights. Good out to 200 meters. 200 gr Remington core lokt ammo. Most shots are under a 100 meters. No scope or magnum needed.

My most used rifle is my Henry pump .22 Magnum. I hunt squirrel and hogs with it.

My next most used is my Remington 7600 carbine in 30-06. Deer and hogs.

My 1903 Springfield in 25-06 that I built in the early eighties. Nickle steel action, Douglas barrel, French walnut stock with European style comb and schnabel fore end, deep rich blue with polishing and engine turning in all the right places, with an old Weaver wideview 3-9 on it. I originally built it as a pretty range gun, but it's taken several antelope and coyotes. I need to get it out of the safe and take some pics one of these days.
OK, I finally got it out, so I dragged this thread back up. It's been in storage for two years while we built a new house, so it needs a good detail cleaning. The action is one of the new, never barreled, nickle steel actions Sarco was selling for $99 back in the 1980s.. Douglas Air Gauged 26" light sporter barrel. Now mostly retired gunsmith Jack Bayuk did all the metal work. I finished the stock after Ed Shulen of Trinidad State Junior College turned the blank down to 95% and bedded it. I was a young man with three small children, so this was the best stock blank I could afford.

last year i had to sell my 03, it was rebored for me by john.w. van patten in 358 norma mag. it was for a elk hunt me and my dad where going on,but the divorce ended that hunt. the rifle was very accurate. i miss that gun.

Winchester Model 94 with Williams receiver sight, chambered in .30-30 for deer hunting; a Ruger MKII RSI with a 1X4 Leopold scope, chambered in .308 for almost everything else.

66 caliber fusil-de-chasse. 6 1/4 pounds with a 44 inch barrel and no stupid sights to get in the way. It perfect!!!

My favorite rifle to hunt with is my all weather 77/22 in WMR. It has boat paddle stock, iron sights and a Leupold compact 2x7. Put in a lighter trigger spring and that's it. Shoots Remington Premier into just a shade over 1" at 100 yards. It's just so dependable and so much fun. Not a thing of rare beauty except maybe to me. Ruger gave it to me in 2001 as a replacement for a 10/22 in WMR that they could not make work. I thought that was pretty right of them to let me pick any rimfire they made.
