At an early age , fired a Marshwood 12 ga double barrel. Was told to pull both triggers at the same time.
Dad & uncle expected me to get knocked on my butt.
Didnt happen.

Lol, killed my first deer with a JC Higgins Bolt action. 12ga. Paid $15.00 for it used. That was a very long time ago.

Italian 6.5 MM Mannnlicher-Carcano Carbine. $14.95 plus $2.00 S&H. Ammunition was $6.00 per hundred. About half were dud's. It might have been illegal, but at the time no one thought anything about it.

As a kid, maybe 10-12 years old (?) my father enrolled me in a P. A. L. riflery program. A bunch of kids one evening at the local precinct house in the basement range, we fired .22L. R. bolt action rifles. They were a mixed bag of single shot and magazine fed, but even if we got the later, we'd only get one round each of .22 handed to us at a time and it was "ready .... aim .... fire" on voice command.
Those were the days ....

First ever was my dad's old Savage/Stevens Model 15 single shot 22lr. The first centerfire rifle was the old Aussie Enfield No 1 Mk 3 that was my first deer rifle. First centerfire revolver was Grampa's old H&R chambered in 38S&W. First semi auto pistol was a 1911 curtesy of Uncle Sam.

I think... the .303 enfield MkIII sporter that I found in a friend's basement, de-rusted, finished, put back together with hand made parts. It was a terrible idea, I didn't make the sight key properly so it shifted just enough to not be accurate, but I made it pretty enough I got some money for it in trade at a gun show to get I think a Marlin .22 that looked sorta like an M1 carbine and wouldn't fire two rounds in a row almost ever, and that got traded for... and so on... we're off to the races. Not sure how many I own now!

A sporterized .303 with bad sights is a terrible idea for a first gun, I must say!


ETA: I had fired air guns and muzzle loaders before this. Hell, I'd — briefly — been in the hospital from being shot rather badly with a BB gun. So not the first time I pulled a trigger or experienced firearms.

Mine was one of my brother's 22 rifle. All I remember was it had a woodchuck or something on the grip and scopes suck when you're 6 years old with an adult size rifle.
I was deadly with my Dad's 22 Benjamin pellet gun. I preferred it until I was about 9.

Either a single shot .410 or a Winchester model 67 .22LR can't really remember. It was 60 years ago. I still have the Model 67. The .410 disappeared many years ago. Of course I had BB. guns and a Pellet pistol before the .22 and .410

22LR, out of a Winchester 69a my dad bought and shortened the stock and added a Lyman peep sight. I was about 10. I still have it, although I've restocked it to fit me now.

I am guessing it was the family .410 single-shot at 8 or 9. By 10, I was shooting at .22 bolt gun pretty regular. At 12, I had shot a .22 Ruger MkII, C96, P08, .357 Blackhawk and .44 629.

First of any sort was a .38 Special from a S&W J-frame with a 2 inch barrel and those horrible factory grips.
I was probably four or five years old (that fuzzy age where I know it wasn't my first memory, which was three years old, but it was close). I had the pistol (and trigger) in my hands, Dad was kneeling directly behind me with his hands wrapped around my hands.

Maybe Dad was trying to make me not like shooting? If so, he failed. The Thanksgiving holiday from then on in my childhood was always hoped (by me) that we could go shoot things. When that happened, it was normally .22s and 20 gauge shotguns.
