im considering a 1911 officers in s.s.

or a s&w 3913 LS

or a seecamp .32 and some old model 10

a thompson parkerized 1911 full sized and some other used piece...

or bumping up the kitty for a low end ar15...et cetera

what would you do if you were coming into 6-8 bills?

I've had my eye on a nice Delta Elite though I'd really like to try out a Ruger Alaskan.

I would buy a used 22 pistol and put my own AR-15 together.

Actually I would get a Thompson Center Encore. I'm in need of a big bore and rimfire handgun. I could have both in an Encore.

Of your choices, it is hard to say without knowing what else you have. If I had nothing and considered your choices I would get the parkerized 1911 and another used gun.

ok,

i have a glock 19 for the "high capasity 9mm" fetish,

i have a glock 36 for the "compact .45acp" fetish,

i have a s&w 681 for the "full sized magnum wheel gun" fetish,

i have a sp101 for the "snubby .357" fetish,

i have a s&w 64 snubby for the "because its cool" fetish,

i have a s&w 642 for the "ultra light snubby" fetish,

i have a taurus 850 cia Ti, for the "somebody other than s&w can do it" fetish,

i have a s.s. taurus model 85 for the "everyone should have one" fetish,

i have a SKS for the "timeless military surplus cant go wrong with it best utility rifle" fetish,

i have a 870 riot gun for the "clear the hallway with one shot" fetish,

i have a bolt action 20ga. for the "pop 'n drop squirrel" fetish,

i have a 30-06 for the "snipe a deer at 400 yards" fetish,

now what whould you get if you were me? besides professional help.

I"d buy as many Star BM 9mm's as possible.

$180 each, out the door, sales tax and all, with a spare mag. They'll be bringing $300 each in a few years, count on it. They are a very solid gun and a great value. I might also buy half a dozen AR-15 lowers, for the same reason. The autorifles are under threat of being outlawed everywhere.

A nice used Gold Cup ( series 70 of course ) They can be found for around 650.00 - 700.00 if you look at enough gunshows.
I bought my last one for 650.00. It was kinda ugly ( like me ) but after a little work it's purdy.

Something in .44 Magnum if it was throwaway money. Say a S&W 629 Trail Boss w/unfluted cylinder, or a Ruger Vaquero, dunno about blued or stainless. If I really wanted to throw it away, I'd get a Ruger SP101 or S&W M60 and have them engraved thusly: link

If it wasn't throwaway money, a down payment on a fire resistant gun safe.

It seems to me that the answer to this question depends on:

What you already own,

What you prefer, i.e. revolver vs auto, rifle vs shotgun vs handgun, etc.

For $600-$650 you should be able to get a S&W Model 41, IMO the best, most ergonomic .22 target pistol I've ever fired. I shoot mine 350 rounds every Sunday, without fail. Any handgun skill I possess can be largely attributed to this gun. It keeps me in tune for the big calibers that are my first love.

If you don't own one, that would be my first recommendation.

If it has to be gun related:

A progressive press, accessories and consumables.

Training.

Accessories.

i'd probably get a Garand. if you asked me this after i got the Garand, i'd choose a FAL.

handguns?

H&K USP or USP compact
maybe a higher end SA 1911...
or a S&W of some sort with nice [wooden] grips.

I would reccommend Taurus, as a general rule, in my experience, they give a good amount of gun for your money.

Either the PT99B @ $594.00
Or the 1911B @ $599.00

They also have some decent revolvers, for the wheelgun folks.
