No SMLE this is not a bogus thread.I ask this question in my
self-protection class to make the very point ctdonath made: DON'T
BE THERE!-avoidance is the first rule of self-protection.
I use this point to emphasise that your firearm is the LAST tool to
be used:'In the Gravest Extreme' to qoute Massad Ayoob. Now I DO
assume you don't have to be there,& I can think of very few reasons
one would have to(LEOs & soldiers excepted).
I salute those of you who took this position & respectfully suggest
those who did not rethink their ideas on self-protectionlease note I
say 'self-protection',not 'self-defense'.The latter assumes that you have
been attacked & have no option but to use force to preserve your life.

I wouldnt even go where this potential trouble spot is going to occur. If I beleived these hypothetical bad guys were coming after me and my family, Id barricade us in at a friend or relative house with lots of firepower and call the police. I like to run away from trouble not towards it.
