Maybe even on a smaller frame, like a direct competitor to the J-frame. A new Pocket Positive, 5-shot, aluminum, 9mm or .38 perhaps? To me, the most glaring hole in the current Colt revolver lineup is an aluminum snub. In this era of CCW, it doesn't make sense not to produce one. Bring out the Cobra in a 2" and 3" aluminum model.
I'm not sure they would be interested in introducing something entirely new. I'd be happy with their sticking with updated versions of old designs. Back in the day they had an aluminum snub. If they want to stick with historic names, they haven't used Detective Special (which is good for a CCW gun). If they want to continue to use snake names, they could do Copperhead. If they want their historic snake names, well... the aluminum Commander 1911 is the Lightweight Commander so why not the Lightweight Cobra?Maybe even on a smaller frame, like a direct competitor to the J-frame. Several Vietnam veterans I know ran into Kraits in the jungle. A Sidewinder might describe a small frame revolver with a swing-out cylinder...If they want to continue to use snake names, they could do Copperhead. Detective Special in .357!!!! ooooh YESMaybe even on a smaller frame, like a direct competitor to the J-frame. A new Pocket Positive, 5-shot, aluminum, 9mm or .38 perhaps?
Closest thing to that would be a Magnum Carry, only made for 1 year.Detective Special in .357!!!! ooooh YES
Well, the cylinder turns the wrong way, for one thing.
Never thought I'd say this about an N-frame but man, that thing is ugly!
just needs a new grip! Perl handle or ivory!Never thought I'd say this about an N-frame but man, that thing is ugly!
I got to mess around and find out!.357 Mags in a lightweight snubby is not fun.
I pass.
All the choices seem to be nothing more than
"catch ups" with S&W and Ruger.
Possibly one of the ugliest revolvers ever produced. Oh wait, there's always the Chiappa Rhino...Who needs Colt when Smith got them all covered!
Smith 4 (2) Life
yeah man… I can’t buy a Rhino eitherNah.
Although -- I would like to see Colt come out with an 8-shot .357 Magnum with a 5" half-lugged barrel (kinda comparable to the 627 PC).

Colt did that with the Colt Cowboy back in the '90s. It was an unmitigated disaster.A nicely appointed Colt SAA for $1000 or less, with unbreakable coil and wire springs instead of the criminally vulnerable flat springs.
Edit:
Yeah I know it sounds like a Blackhawk. And if Colt can't make an SAA better than a Blackhawk then forget it.

That's never going to happen. The Ruger New Vaquero has an MSRP over $1000 now. Although you may want to look into the new US finished Piettas that are on the horizon.I am familiar with the Colt Cowboy. With its investment cast frame, frame mounted firing pin, and transfer bar, it was a Ruger Vaquero clone. It deserved to be a disaster. What I am asking for, and unlikely to get, is the classic Colt SAA with unbreakable wire hand spring and unbreakable wire trigger/bolt spring, and classic finish at less than $1000. That's all. I can live with a flat hammer spring, no need to go to a coil spring there. Keep the old style firing pin on the hammer.
If I ever get a Colt SAA (unlikely), I will replace the flat hand spring and trigger/bolt spring with wire springs. I did that to every Uberti and Pietta percussion revolver I ever owned so they would not break down in competition. I will not be competing with any Colt SAA, but I don't need the aggravation of broken springs.
They sold at a similar price as the new production Pythons and Anacondas. What was it, about five years ago, DW produced again though
expensive. So how many sold? I don't think many. A flop.
Why again because a few gun forums posters wish it so.
