We all have that point for ammo sales where it's time to buy it, because the price is right!

With all the emails from Midway, Widener's, Graf's, PV....ETC.... At what point do you open your wallet for

9/40/45 target/defense
38/357/44
223/308/30-06

What do you consider fair shipping?

Do you buy a few boxes , or because of shipping, just buy "cases" or other large allotments?

Very market feely/researchy, yes !

Thanks for your input and time, I appreciate it!

The LGS always has 115gr brass for $11.99/50. When it's on sale for $10.99, I may buy some. When 124gr drops to $10.99, I buy in bulk. Russian Steel is often $8.99 there, but I can't shoot it at the range. It's hard to find online deals that beat those prices once shipping is added.

In .45, $17.99 is typical with $16.99 being a routine sale price.

I just picked up 1000 rounds (still in factory sealed case) of Federal 147gr HST for $500 from an Armslist guy. That is $120 savings from if I bought at my LGS for the standard $28.99 plus tax. Not a smoking deal, but satisfactory.

If you qualify or wait for free shipping from FreedomMunitions, it is very good ammo for very little $$$. I generally won't buy ammo retail on line because of my fortunate position near very reasonable LGS (Vance's Shooting Supplies).

Changes with the market, how much I'm shooting, political climate, my future expectations, etc. Those things can change abruptly.

I immediately bought new manufacture brass 9mm FMJ that was $210/1k with free shipping recently. That same deal would probably prompt an immediate response from me today as well.

A few weeks ago a reputable retailer had 1k round cases of Federal 9mm 147gr HST for $400. I should have jumped right on that maybe, but didn't.

I use ammoseek.com and just get whatever is the very cheapest listed, and factor in shipping. I make sure I only have guns that can take steel cased ammo since that is what most of the cheapest stuff is.

I can get Federal Aluminum at WW for $14.97 (.40S&W 180gr) so for plinking that's my number to beat, with shipping $14.00 a box.

While I reload, I do buy factory premium JHP ammunition for SD/HD use and factory target/plinking ammunition for comparison/reference purposes and for calibers that doesn't realize savings for reloading like 7.62x39.

For factory premium JHP ammunition, I mostly buy from SGAmmo as they usually have better prices than other vendors - http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/pistol-ammo-sale

For factory target/plinking ammunition, I usually buy from SGAmmo but also from other vendors when on sale to save on shipping cost if I am buying other items (I usually open my wallet if final shipped cost can beat SGAmmo shipped prices). My last ammo purchase was from PSA when I was ordering AR parts and they had 7.62x39 and .300 BLK ammo on sale.

BTW, Happy Birthday!!! :D:D:D

I know you didn't mention .22lr, but wanted to chime in for those who are interested as I have been watching it lately. The optimal price for the past several months has been $30 per brick of 500 rounds, or $.06 per round with free shipping. Cabelas, Bass Pro and Gander Mountain have all had similar deals recently at least prior to the Orlando terrorist attack.

I buy most of my 9mm ammo from FREEDOM MUNITIONS....
There 9mm reman is the best I have ever fired after hundreds of rounds never a failure to feed or eject.
There 9mm 115 gr reman usually runs about $8 for box of 50.
I use it my KAHR 9mm and my S&W SD9VE and my HI-POINT 995ts CARBINE.

Only just got back into AR15s, so trying to keep it below $150/500rnd packs with shipping included for brass. My rifle functions with steel but prefer brass. Still browsing for deals.

I can reload 9mm for 15 cents or less, so I usually try not to spend more than 22 cents for quality brass factory ammo.

I know this may make some members cringe, but CTD has a sale on TulAmmo.

115gr 9mm - $7.29 / 50
230gg .45ACP - $11.39 / 50

I've used this stuff before and it is great cheap plinking range ammo.

I know a lot of people hate CTD, but I only buy from them when I get the lowest price available.

But don't they get it back from you with shipping ? I'm no fan of CTD, but I don't hate them, my issue has always been their exorbitant shipping charges.
In fact, it's the shipping that runs me off of most on-line vendors, except for Sportsmansguide, who often has a free shipping code available.
With that shipping code, SG is often about the best deal around, especially on smaller orders.

Yes, like myself, a lot of members remember and boycott Treat You Like Dirt regardless of the price.

As mentioned, Sportsman's Guide with the free shipping codes is about the cheapest I've seen lately. Wolf Gold, a lead cored, copper jacketed, brass cased, reloadable ammo is a bargain, running a little over $150/500 delivered for 5.56. I believe it's manufactured in Taiwan, shoots great.

Yep...won't buy from cheaper than dirt any more.

5.56, 0.33/rd is my buy point. I refuse to pay more than that.
Green tip max is 0.40/rd.
9mm is 0.20/rd.

Less is better, of course, but I can not see paying more than this. Of course, there are speciality rounds here and there, but those numbers are for bulk, crap.

I check Slickguns and some other sites and usually bite if 9MM is under $11.00 a box, shipped. It IS out there quite often, I've bought a couple thousand rounds since March or so alone. Best local deal for brass cased 9mm was at Wal-Mart. It was Perfecta a $9.49 a box and then $9.79 a box at another store. It's dirty, and "flashy", but it shoots ok, so I buy it once in a while. I think the best deal of all for 9mm was $9.49 a box for 115gr S&B, shipped. I still have over a 1000 rounds of that. I recently got some S&B .40S&W for $11.50 a box shipped, but I don't remember where.

I watch for free shipping, as the shipping kills any chance of getting a bargain on CTD and some other sites.

I sometimes buy higher than this if I need ammunition, but I try to stay under $10 a box for brass cased 9mm and $11.50 a box for brass cased 40 S&W. Its very possible with the right sale/rebate/cash back website combo.

The only ammo I buy on line is target grade 22LR any more. If I am making a purchase, I will often toss in some other ammo due to shipping, but the reason I am buying is 22LR. I don't check prices until I am ready to buy.

I don't really buy because of price. I stockpile and buy when I reach minimum supply on hand. When I start approaching that level I start paying attention to prices.

Their is no manic number for me.

When I need, I buy the cheapest I can find (including shipping) after searching off and on for a few days. I only buy bulk on line, for quality ammo such as hunting and defense ammo I generally go to a brick and mortar store.

For what it's worth, I've never once bought from CTD, because they've never been the cheapest... SG ammo has gotten a good bit of business from me.

I found some .38 special reloaded 148-grain wadcutters for $10/box OTT. That's a pretty good deal in my neck of the woods.

SGAmmo has seen a lot of business from me lately. About 15k rounds at about 22 cents for quality 9mm brass cased new US 115 and 124gr fmj. About 30 cents for 45acp, although I just got 2k at 26 cents. Shipping $16/1000 on 9mm, $25/1000 on 45.

Best LGS prices are at least 50% higher.

I never buy ammo online. I only maintain a specific supply of ammo for a specific set of firearms, and beyond that just buy what I need in anticipation of a trip to the range. If I find myself short in times of low supply, whoop-dee-doo, I don't shoot for a bit. Simple as that.
