what's your opinion of the Marlin XL7?

Just curious, Djardine, what do you folks use that .25-06 for in Idaho? Most beautiful state in the Nation, by the way.

I love the .25-06 for Mule Deer- it packs a punch, shoots flat, is accurate, and has very low recoil compared to the .270, .308, and .30-06. I also shoot coyotes with a 90 grain bullet when I don't have my .223 with me.

Marlin XL7?

Hi All

I've got the Marlin XL7 in the 06 calibre and its a lovely rifle. It's lightweight and almost has no recoil. It has just got one major flaw. The extractor pin is very, very very weak. ( I broke mine twice). I reload my ammo and have noticed that when i neck size my cases the have a tendancy to get stuck in the chamber and when I open the bolt, the extracter pin breaks. Solution to the problem is to full size the the cases. I went hunting this week-end and shot a Spring Buck at close to 600m(656 yards).
And before anyone says that I am overloading my cartridge, it was loaded 1.7grain above minimum load.

If there is anyone out there that has had a similar problem wit the Marlin or any other make, I would like to know.

I can tell you are in Africa. Where low pressure trumps high velocity (and sticking cases) every time.

Welcome to THR, Mono! :)

Thanks for the welcome note Maverick. I will be going on to higher loads as the full resized cases work fine in my rifle. But seriously, if anyone knows about another rifle that has an extractor pin pin than can tell break that easily.
B.T.W. Watch this space for pics of Eland. Going hunting again at the end of July. This beast of an Antelope can grow to weigh 1000 pounds(after it has been slaughtered)

Extractor pin? Real guns (read: Mausers) don't use a extractor pin. :neener:

Hi Please check out the attachment. The arrows show the part that broke. Gunsmiths call it the extractor pin, so who am I to argue.
Anyhow, thats what broke.
Does anyone have a e-mail address for Marlin?
