What's your Senior Shootin' Iron?

Interesting...I have some older guns, bought or acquired more recently, but the gun I've had the longest is a Colt .38 Police Positive that belonged to my wife's uncle, a cop in NYC. Nickled and with pearl grips it was his 'dress-up' gun, as he spent the last years of his life in plain clothes on pawn shop detail. It had been carried and shot extensively before I (actually my wife) inherited it. Would I buy another, new, if they were still being made? Yes I would. It's the only handgun my wife will shoot. Sits in the night stand on her side of the bed, loaded with 200gr 'stopper' loads. Cheap insurance.
My oldest gun bought new is a 6mm Rem. Model 700, dated in 1964. I'd buy it again in an instant.

Ruger standard .22 lr bought in 1981, my first and yes I still have it. My oldest weapons are an Arisaka rifle made in '48 and a '46 H&R 199 .22 lr 6"

Win 1897 bought in the 40's or so by my moms father. He loaned it out and some guy bent the barrel and hung a ugly poly choke on it,this was when poly chokes first came out or so I was told. I got it when my father passed in 1987. My dad and I hunted with bows so no other guns from him, No collector value. I NEVER shoot it anymore the checkering on the hammer is smooth as a babies bottom. I love the look on peoples faces when they ask WHAT IS THAAAAAT?There is also a ted williams 12 ga in my safe dont know how old it is.

The gun I've managed to hang onto the longest is a Navy Arms-marked '58 Remington .44 that I picked up at a big-box store for $59.95. I think it was the summer of 1975, or there-abouts

-And yes, I'd buy it again. In fact, I'm looking around for another... .

Excluding inherited ones that I used all the time previously,

First, what gun have you had longest:Firestorm 1911 clone

Second, would you buy that gun if you had the chance to do it over?
In a heartbeat. not a single issue with it, with any ammo, in the 6 years I've had in now, and I shoot a minumum 100rds from it EVERY range trip, without fail, as it's my main CCW gun. Couldnt be happier for the $300 I paid, and would not sell it for $1000.

A Mossberg 500 12ga. Still have it, and it's been very good.

It's usually at bedside with an 18.5" barrel as my main home-defense piece. Also wears a 20" accu-choke barrel for turkey. Now I have a rifled barrel w/ scope mount as well. Still have the original 28" barrel also.

I love its versatility the most.

Walther PPKS .22LR LNIB for $225.00. If I could buy them at that price again, I would buy 10 or 20.

6" S&W Model 28-2, Highway Patrolman. Bought gently used in 1968. Excellent trigger, accuracy. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat, wouldn't sell it for a grand.

Colt Peacekeeper, 357 with a 6" barrel, purchased new some 22 years ago. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat, and I'd love to find one with a 4" barrel!

JC Higgins model 31 .22 (short, long and long rifle... sold in sears stores in the early 1960s

The weapon I have had the longest is a MK IV Series 70 Colt, in 45 ACP, of course. THe oldest weapon I have is a Krag, made at Springfield armory.

I don't shoot the Krag very often, but when I do, I wonder what tales it could tell from it's existence, if it could talk.

I guess the silverback of the bunch is the Norinco MAK90. Yes, I'd buy it again!

My half brother has possession of dear old departed dad's Universal M1 carbine and Remington model 12 pump .22.

OFT lamented:

Winchester Model 67 bought used in 1957. I still have it but the sights seem to be wearing out as they sure aren't as sharp as they used to be.
:)

Yeah, and my scopes are wearing out, too. Every year I have to crank a little more on the focusing rings.

First gun I ever owned on my own: Remington Nylon 66 in bolt action, bought new circa 1961. I've gone through two stocks on the "Lifetime Guarantee," but everything else on it is still perfect. Got a big game 4x scope on it which looks awkwardly large, but it still cloverleafs 3 rounds at 75 yards if I haven't drunk too much coffee.

My "oldest?" An 03-A3 purchased while a sophmore in high school in '63 for the grand total of $5 US with a hundred rounds of ammo thrown in. "Sporterised" her in '66 and she's still in the safe. "Wifie" out shoots me with her ever time she goes to the range.

Second oldest is a "Shilo Sharps" M 1874 in 45-110 bought in Montana in '80 for $600 US. She's also still in the safe - and yea, "Wifie" out-shoots me with her also.

I LOVE the way the range goes silent when this big GUN comes out of the case, and a little blonde woman sits down behind her and proceeds to "ring the gong"(220 yrds) for 20 straight rounds! It's priceless!!!!

Gentle winds,
cr

My First

My first very own firearm is my Harrington & Richardson .16 Ga single barrel shotgun, I used to stop by the W.E. Merritt Hardware Store everytime I could me and my pals we would go in with our saved money and buy Case pocket knives and they would let us handle and look at the shotguns and rifles. The one I eyed and handled the most was the H&R in .16Ga and the old fellows there would talk about the .16 being their favorite. I would go home and at dinner talk to my dad about the H&R in .16Ga they had, we had that same conversation over and over and over lmao well I guess he heard it enough. On my birthday that year 15, November 1963 ( I was 10) he hearded me in the car and off to town we went as we approched the intersection of Main and Oak Streets there in Mount Airy, NC I became excited because thats where W.E. Merritt Hardware was located :). When we left my dad had me in tow along with a brand new H&R single barrel shotgun 26" barrel full choke that I still have to this day :) Thanks Dad

We still talk guns as often as I can get home he will be 88 this year :)

I bought 2 at the same time. A remington 870 and a Ruger mini-14.

I'd buy another 870 but probably would not buy the Mini-14 again.

I still shoot a .50 caliber flintlock in plain southern mountain rifle style that I built back in 1978.
I also still shoot a Marlin 781 .22LR I bought used in 1981. Taught my son to shoot with it also.
I recently bought a 1945 Mossberg Model 42M because that was what I used for hunting groundhogs and crows in the 1960's....so the answer to question #2 is YES, I'd buy one again...since I always regretted losing my first 42M when I moved to Australia in 1971.

The one that I've had the longest was my Father's Star BKM. My Mother found it in a dresser drawer while looking for something else, and asked me if I wanted it. I never knew that my Father had the pistol (guess the same for my Mother, she just didn't like them in HER house).

The firearm that I have had the lokgest that I have purchased is an FM Hi-Power that now sports a Belgian FN slide, Novak sights, a Commander-style hammer, extended slide release and manual safety, and a pair of Spegel cocobolo grips. The slide was butchered by a 'smith I left it with to put on some Tritium sights (cut a dovetail off-square, then patched it with epoxy). Last time I take it across the state to have work done. Found a local fellow, who has recently fully retired, to perform the work.

My first gun was my grandfathers double barrel 12 with Damascus barrels. My dad hunted with it first, then I did starting about age 10 or so. We lived on a farm in Michigan so there was lots of game to shoot and eat.

I've still got it. Haven't decided whether to referb it yet. I haven't shot it in 50 years. Back then I used light duty 12 ga ammo. Its a "George Fisher". Anyone ever hear of it.

My first was a Remington 11-48 in 20 gauge that I got from Grandpa when I showed an interest in hunting.

I'd buy another one. In fact, I bought a 12 gauge 11-48 so I'd have a matched set.
