Your first gun purchase

The first gun I bought was first generation Glock 22 back in the early 1990s. I couldn't shoot the thing worth a damn because I couldn't get used to the Glock trigger and ended up selling it six months later.

i had owned a few guns by the time i was 21, a couple inherited from my grandpa, and a couple given to me by my dad (so he could see me enjoy part of my inheritance while he was still alive).

the first gun i bought on my own was shortly after my 21st birthday. the day after, i believe. i was raised entirely on revolvers as far as handguns go, so i wanted my first handgun to be a wheelgun.

i looked at and handled a few guns, before a shiny new Ruger GP100 in stainless caught my eye.

i still have that gun, and don't plan on getting rid of it.

First gun was bought in 1988, it was a Mossberg 500, 12ga Combo with the 28" VR barrel and 20" rifle sight barrel. I bought it the day I turned 18.

I bought my first handgun the day I turned 21, a Colt Double Eagle.

First gun (at 18), Stevens/Savage Singlebarrel Shotgun 12ga, 3" chambers. Bought at believe it or not Target. A year later had the barrel cut to 18 1/2" and a Cutts Compensator choke installed. Had a range of chokes from spreader to extra-full. Patterns printed low and had to aim above game to hit with it. It sat in my gun case until I used it as part of a gun trade years later.

First handgun (at 21), a Ruger Speed Six, 357 Mag. from Oshmans (now Sports Authority) Found out I could not shoot anything but 158grn loads at POA traded to Alexanders Guns for a .357 Ruger Blackhawk, 6 1/2" barrel.

My first was a well used $150 870 that had spent it's life in a police car. I got it in December 1999 (Y2K and all). I still have it, since then I have bought and sold close to 20 guns but I will probably always hold on to that shotgun, not so much because it was my first puchase but because it fits it's niche v. well. It took me a few tries to settle on the pistols I have now, bought and sold till I found what I have now. Same for the rifles.

The first gun I purchased for myself was a Taurus .38spl. revolver, nickle plated, with fake mother of pearl grips. A real pimp's special! It was basically a copy of the heavy barrel version of the S&W Model 10. This was in about 1975. It was actually a pretty well built handgun. After that I bought a Llama mini-1911A1 in .380auto and then a Llama Comanche revolver in .357magnum. After that, I bought nothing but real S&Ws. I sold the whole mess (along with several long guns I'd been given growing up) in 1977 to pay for flying lessons.

OK I'll fess up and let everyone who doesn't already know realize that I'm an old phart- I bought my first gun when I was living in Michigan when I turned 18 in 1963- it is a Glenfield model 70, 22 cal, the one with the clip that makes it look like an M1 carbine- I turned 18 at the end of June and bought it in August or September- recently I looked up the manufacture date and it came off the line in June of that year- I've always fantisized that it was made on my birthday in June- It stilll holds a favorite spot in my safe and it will never be sold- It still works like the day it was made and it gets handed down to my grandson when grandpa bites the big one :p

When I was 18 in 1955, bought a Stevens 16ga pump shotgun for dove hunting. IIRC it was $35 at the Montgomery Ward employee discount store. Sold it in 1994 to a guy who collected 16's.

the first gun I actualy purchased was an ak-47. lol:D way to start off right lol.

but the first gun I owned I helped pay for, it was my graduation present. my 30-06 browning a-bolt SS stalker. w/ leupold vx-III scope!

First gun I purchased was a CZ P-01, last August. I'd only fired a gun for the first time about a month before that. I was in love with shooting from the get go. I tried mucho guns in the intervening days, and chose the P-01.

It was dirty as hell inside (had an FTF as the round tried to push through the gunk on the feed ramp), but I cleaned it and petted it and named it George and George, he is one fine gun.

I have others now, but that was my first.

Beretta 92due to the influence of the original " Lethal Weapon" movie. Still have it, shoot regularly with my 13 year old

I bought a double barrel shotgun when I was 13. A year before the 68GCA.
Then I had to get my father or my uncle to buy for me for a few years. The gun store called my parents to make sure it was ok with them but that was store policy not law.

My first purchase was a Ruger Mark II Target pistol with the tapered barrel.

Prior to this for Christmas & birthdays I got various rifles & shotguns from my Dad. But for some reason he hated handguns. He felt that they were only made for killing people. He always told me if I wanted a pistol I would have to buy one myself. A buddy that owned the shop loaned me his Ruger Blackhawk for the weekend so I could try that out. Since I never fired a pistol I was wondering what the recoil was like, because I was thinking about buying one a 44 mag or 357 mag for my 1st gun. The gun wasn't bad at all even with some of his hot handloads. But after the experience I figured a 22 cal would be a good starter gun to learn with. Plus it's cheap enough to shoot.

Soon as I turned 18 years old I was at the sport shop bright & early ordering my handgun. When I came home my Dad ask me "Where did you go?" I told him that I ordered my gun. That was over 20 years ago & I still got that one. It's one of the few that I can't get rid of.

First purchased? I'd rather not talk about it.
The second was an Enfield Mk III which I got about ten years ago.

Good grief, but most of you guys are young! Geezerhood sneaks up on you really fast. A mail order Glenfield 22 bolt action from Herters. No paperwork, they just sent it to me in the mail or UPS (right after they stopped using horses). When my younger daughter moved out (about 13 years ago) she took it with her. Claimed she needed to "borrow" it for a while, "just in case". Smart girl, thankfully she never needed it. I'll never get it back, but it's just a few more years until my grand-daughter and I will go shoot it. Couldn't have lost it to a better cause.
