I got to wondering since even though I have owned guns for a few years now, it's only recently I bought one, the ones I did have had been inherited.

So the question entered my mind to ask. What was the first gun you purchased yourself? Not that was given you, not that you paid for but a parent had to buy, but you walking in putting the money down saying what you want filling the forms to buy it all yourself from start to finish. And as a side question do you still have it? If not what became of it?

Hmmm

Shotgun was a Remington "Sportsman" 20 GA, like the Browning A-5. Sold to a friend's dad.

A 6-1/2" barrel .357 Ruger Blackhawk. Stolen.

I had a lot of guns growing up with my dad that were 'mine' and still were at age 18, but they weren't with me when living with my mom. Went to a gun show shortly after my 18th birthday and purchased an 870P with a 6 shot magazine tube. I knew I needed something to keep goblins at bay when defending the homestead. I still have it, and it still does the same job. Only now it uses a Surefire to help. Don't think I'll ever have the heart to sell it.

Ah, my first gun.....

I took the oft offered advice and shot every auto in the rental case at Wades (Bellevue, WA) and found I had an affinity for SIGs and pure, inborne hatred for Glocks. Then I bought a Beretta.

Yup.

I shot the Beretta 92 they had for rent, and was stunned at my accuracy, the soft recoil and the overall ergonomics of that monster slab of steel in my huge mitts.

So I wandered into the gun store, and found they had no 92's, just a 96 FS--.40 cal stainless. I thought "how much different could .40 be from 9mm??" And I found out the answer that very day.

It took me a year to learn to shoot that gun properly.

I finally sold it off, since the thing was so freaking huge that it was impossible to CCW. I still have a "full capacity" (11 round) magazine for it. If anyone wants it, drop me a pm and I'll mail it off to you.

Since I asked guess I should answer huh?

Had several I inherited when my grandfather passed a few years ago. But my first was bought a few weeks ago, a Marlin Model60 from wally world. It's different actually doing it yourself then just getting one. Least for me it was.

My first firearm was the one I bought myself for my 21st birthday :)

Colt NRM Government

I basically learn how to shoot on this gun. Marvel .22 Kit shortly followed to help with my flinching :D

My first purchase was a model 94 Winchester .30-30. I saw a few of them but then saw an older tarnished looking one and bought it because I love old guns. When I got home I did a search on the manufacture number and turns out it was made in 1951.

When the Navy wouldn't train me......

I bought a second hand Springfield Armory 1911 .45 ACP and dropped a couple hundred bucks at the indoor range out in town.

As Ship's Duty Officer, I wanted to know for sure that at least one person in my duty section could shoot straight and clear a FTE.

Basic qualification and annual proficiency consisted of only 25 rounds (thanks for the budget cuts Bill Clinton) and protocol for FTE was to raise your right hand and wait for the Range Master to come and clear the jamb.

So picture this....

Small suicide boat crosses the buoy line and starts popping off rounds with a Kalishnakov....Top Side Sentry (w/ 12 ga. pump) and Petty Officer of the Deck (w/ 1911) return fire....the 45 year old .45 ACP fails to eject and the POOD raises his right hand, EXACTLY AS HE WAS TRAINED TO DO.:banghead:

The first one I bought on my own was a Remington 700 Classic in 220 Swift, when I was 18. I paid $400 for it, which was 10 years ago. It shot wonderfully, even for having a sporter barrel. I had to sell it 7 years ago when money got tight. I have been looking for a replacement for 4 years now. When I do find one, the price is in the neighborhood of $625-$650. And that is a bit much for a rifle that will never fill the void of the previous one. Maybe someday.

1989 Colt Series 80 Government Model in stainless steel. I bought it two weeks before I turned 21 and had to wait until my birthday to fill out the paperwork and take it home. I've still got it and shoot it fairly regularly.

The first gun I bought on my own was my Benjamin .177 pellet rifle when I was 12 years old. No papers to fill out on that gun, just walked up to the counter at the local Western Auto (long gone) and paid for it. I still have that gun. The pump has been rebuilt three times, but it shoots great.

I think the next gun I bought was the first "real" gun I bought on my own, although, no papers required to be filled out on it. This was also probably the best deal I have ever made; a "third hand" Ruger .44 Carbine, Deluxe model, for $50 from a friend who needed money for college, when I was 18. Still have it also, with ten deer taken, by me, with it.

The first gun I had to fill out the papers on was my S&W K-17 .22 revolver, bought at a gun show, soon after I turned 21. Will never get rid of it, either.

Maybe you can see a pattern here; I have traded, sold, or gotten rid of very few guns after acquiring them.

I'm going to show my advanced age with this one! I bought an Iver Johnson snubby .22 revolver from a pawn show for the grand sum of $15 when I was 15 years old. No hassle, no paperwork, no nothing!

I have better taste in firearms now!

Bought a Mossberg 590A1 a few days after my 18th birthday :)

And I still have it and it is my home defense gun.

saying what you want filling the forms

The first 2-3 didn't involve any forms. The first one involving forms, was a Walther P-38. I sold it to an individual about ten years later.

without forms works too, just meaning to say the first one you bought 100% on your own without needing someones help to technicly buy it for you.

5th gun owned, but 1st gun purchased:

Bersa/Firestorm .380

I sold her at 1700 rounds without a single malfunction of any kind, other than cutting my own thumb with the safety lever (how ironic, eh?) I miss her dearly.

At 18 I bought myself a Remington 700 BDL in 3006
First Pistol was bought 1 day after my 21st birthday a Colt Python .357 Magnum with a 6" Barrel. The only gun I have ever sold. Replaced with another one just like it with in a week. I was not kind to that first gun.
I was always asked when shooting it if it was an Anaconda in 44 magnum. Yeh the loads were that hot. 2 Friends bought Pythons for themselves after they saw what my gun put up with.

what if you bought it at a gun show and didnt have to fill out forms?
i got a few guns but newest was an 870 express mag. no paper work but no help
nope, was just demonstration. just if you did it yourself without needing someone else.
