I started late I guess. Firstly, I don't "collect" guns, every gun I own serves a purpose and is used every year for hunting or self defense, but this maybe why I didn't start buying guns until later. Not that I have anything against collecting, someday I might do it someday.

I didn't buy my first gun until about 2007 when I was back from the Corps and 28 years old. So I think that I got a much later start then most. I bought these guns in this order:

1.) Benelli SBE II Shotgun (2008) - Use it for duck, goose, pheasant and grouse hunting.

2.) Browning X-Bolt Stainless Rifle (2010) - Use it for deer hunting, hopefully elk, bear and other big game animals later.

3.) SW Bodyguard .380 Pistol (2011) - Use it for CCW everyday.

4.) SW MP15X Tactical AR15 (2011) - Use as a patrol rifle for work.

So that made me think, when did you buy your first rifle and how old were you?

The first gun I bought with my own money was a bolt action .410 single shot. I was 16 and it cost me $7.50 from a friend of mine. This was in 1968.

Rifle? I'm 49. I purchased my first rifle - a .22 semi-auto for target shooting - just after Christmas this year. It was technically a present from my wife.

I shot guns as a teenager, then stopped until just recently.

I have also purchased a black powder revolver this year and a 1911 in .45 APC. These three are the only guns that I have purchased, ever.

I have three other long guns that I inherited from my grandparents, but I didn't purchase them.

All were purchased for target shooting and fooling around.

I had a BB pistol way back when I was a kid.

I've used shotguns and rifles before, but never owned anything until my 40s.

First rifle, around 1979 at age of 27. A Weatherby Vanguard in .270 Win.

First gun bought was about age 22, a Mossburg 500 12 ga marketed under the Revelation name (Western Auto)

First gun owned, given to me on my birthday while in 7th grade, Savage DL24. 20 ga shotgun under a .22 lr.

First handgun, a .22 single action by RG, (rotten gun)

Still have the Savage & Revelation.

Been shooting since I was 6 but all of my guns were hand me downs and inherited or given as gifts. Didn't buy my first until I was 30. I've bought 4 total now.

First was a CZ 550 Varmint Laminated Stock .22-250
Second was a CZ 452 Ultra-Lux which I gave to my dad for Christmas
Third was an FNP-40 USG
Last was a Glock 19 Gen 3

Wow, it looks like a few got their first guns in their 40's. I guess I didn't get that late of a start.

My first handgun was a Hi-point 9mm (used, beat to heck and ugly but cheap @ $75) when I was 25, my first rifle was an AR-15 when I was 26, and my first shotgun was a Remington 870 supermag, also when I was 26.

Bought my first gun at age 29, year 2009.

I got a late start because I didn't grow up in a gun friendly household. My first gun experience was in Boy Scouts, then many more in the military. Didn't own a gun until after I got out, but passed on several opportunities over the years. Some of which I still kick myself over.

Since 2009, I've acquired 3 shotguns, 6 rifles, 2 pistols and a pellet gun.

Was given a Daisy BB gun by my folks when I was 6.
Shot my dads Winchester pump .22, and single-barrel 12 ga as soon as I was big enough to hold them up. Hunting by myself with them at about 11 or 12.
I bought my first handgun, a Ruger Standard .22 Auto red eagle when I was 15.
My first new shotgun, a Remington 878 when I was 16.
My first centerfire handgun, a S&W 1917 revolver the same year.

Uncle Sam loaned me my first centerfire rifle, an M-14, when I was 19!
And I bought my first centerfire rifle, a Remington 722 in .222 Rem caliber that same year.

Mt first was around age 7 or 8. I won't elaborate more than that because I prefer not to expose my age other than to say, I'm an old fart.

The first gun that I owned was a birthday present. It was a .22 rifle and I was 7. First gun that I bought with my own money was a springfield 1911 when I was 15. I had to get my mom to go in and actually buy it for me, but it was my own money.

When I was 20 years old.
Worked at a factory that paid union scale and every Friday was payday.
Went to Kmart one cool October night in 1973 and bought a 20 gauge Mossberg Bolt action 385K.
Was under $65.00.
That shotgun was stolen in a home burglary twelve years later and I found a suitable replacement this summer that was super clean and bought it right away.
That one cost me $139.00.

Guess I was about 25-26 when I got my 30-06, that was the first centerfire that I ever bought, only purchase for my self a couple of CO2 pistols in my teens until then. Then the sickness started and I now have 3 pistols, 3 rifles, and a pellet gun in the last few years :)

I was about 24-25 and bought a used second generation G22 with the original Tupperware and 12 mags. Picked up my first black rifle about 7 months later, and AR-180B, and it's been down hill ever since.

13, it was a stainless Remington 700ML. At that time I was competition shooting, and buying a muzzle loader opened another class for me. Foolishly sold it to my uncle when I wanted something more and haven't been able to get it back yet.

I was 19 and in the USAF,1964, bought a Browning 22 Auto Rifle new for $65. Still have it.

I bought my first gun in 1986 at 16. It was a 742 in the 243 flavor....I think I paid 250-275 for it at a gun show.
