I recently special ordered a new Kimber 1911 from my local LGS. The sales person I spoke to said that it was going to take 12 weeks for it to come in. How come it's taking so long for Kimber to ship out 1911's?

If so, over the past three months, the world has been enduring a Corona Virus pandemic that has shut down many businesses, limited travel, and put people across the world in quarantine. In the United States, the area hardest hit was the state of New York, and New York City in particular. Kimber is headquartered in Yonkers, New York. In addition, this pandemic, as do many crisis, caused a panic run on all things firearm related.
Next, was the death in police custody of George Floyd, which prompted nation wide (some world wide) protests, and some rioting. New York was also a hot spot for some of these activities. This also caused an increase in firearm related sales.
With business shut down, travel limited, and pair of incidents that caused a run on firearms, that doesn't seem too long to wait, especially for a "special order" item.
