This is just crazy! Thanks for sharing. Just popped in an order for 3 bottles of CFE Pistol. Kept waiting for the “surprise” Hazmat fee to pop up. It never did.

They have some other powders available for delivery to home.

Are the boxes coming with the proper Hazmat info on them? Or is some neckbeard at the store just dropping the bottles in a box and slapping a shipping label on it?

I’ll let you know when (if) my order arrives. Looks to be a legit company...very extensive retail distribution, just nothing really close to me. So happy for free shipping...and I’ll take free Hazmat when offered. Even better, it’s $2 per bottle cheaper than my local Cabela’s, my only source for locally acquired powder, and I didn’t have to break shelter in place rules. Sales tax charged all the same, so Ohio’s happy.

It’s a legit company. It’s a major sporting goods retail chain in the south.

Over 400 stores. If that's not a legit company I don't know what is.

Their Aransas Pass short sleeved shirts are what I wear most of the time. Heck of a deal at $25 each.

Odds are it is a half-bearded millennial type, but my understanding is that "Hazmat" fees are largely a discretionary charge by the retailer. Sure you have to be trained to handle and ship Hazmat materials and must burden your costs with that expense, however, in reality the costs are fractionally small at the unit level so it's just another profit line for the seller. That's why you see it get "waived" quite often

My powder didn't have the proper box, or proper labels.

It had the ORM-D ammo label on it.
Received my 3 bottles of CFE-Pistol today. Just as you...ORM-D sticker, regular box, powder clearing rolling around in the bottom of the box with some air pillow filler. Absolutely floored me. No signature either. Whenever I’ve received factory ammo lately I’ve had to sign for it.
I love free shipping and free Hazmat...but it takes me back to my previous question...is this a legit company? I suppose 400 retail locations makes it a BIG company, but ignoring established safety protocols really concerns me.

The people packing it don't have a clue. They just get a message to box and ship.

It's something lacking at the corporate level. But I'm not going to tell them. :)

I'm conflicted on this. I hate to pay Hazmat and shipping, but I pay it when I have to. Honestly, the free shipping at $25 wouldn't have been enough to have me order powder from them if I had to add Hazmat. I can get CFE-Pistol locally...well, when I'm not on state ordered social distancing.

is this a legit company
Academy is a privately-owned Company with it's HQ literally 'just a few odd miles' up the road from me in Katy TX. From their website:

The first Academy store opened as a tire shop in San Antonio in 1938. It turned into a military surplus store, then began offering sports and outdoors equipment as it evolved into the Academy Sports + Outdoors we know today. Presently, we operate 259 stores in 16 states, supported by more than 22,000 team members throughout the South, Southeast, and Midwest.

I've been shopping with them for a couple decades now and they have at least (5) Brick and Mortar stores within 15 miles of me. Certainly not what I would consider a 'fly-by-night' by any stretch.

BACK ON TOPIC

Academy's Website indicates Shipping not available on their Primers.

H-335, BL-C2, CFE223, and CFE Pistol are currently listed a Shipping Available with an estimated arrival of Apr. 2 - 8 LIMIT 5

H-4350, IMR-4064, H-110 and Tite-Group are listed as Shipping not available.

I'm thinking their Webmaster must be hittin' the sauce, but as Markr indicated above, it appears to be possible to order and receive powder w/o Hazmat,,,, At least for the time being,,,

If you live in the PNW Bi-Mart stores have some components and RCBS equipment. I was able to find 100 packs of primers when Sportsman's Warehouse only had 1000 packs. They also had most of their powder in stock and some brass and bullets. The bad news is in store only, good news is Bi-Mart is employee owned with headquarters in Oregon.

I hope the shortage doesn't get as bad as the "Great Component Shortage" of 2013.
I remember it well. In my area, small pistol primers were the first to disappear. When they started showing up again, pistol powder became hard to find. When I could find a pound of something at the local gun shows, I would buy it just to try it.
