I live in New Yorkistan:barf:. I want 30 rounders, STANAG compliant M16/AR15 mags.:)

Is it legal to get stuff from canada:confused:? (they have some rifles I do not see on American websites)

try posting a WTB ad here on THR.

btw, many people won't know what STANAG means.

Stanag? Unless you Want "Thermelts", stick to USGI issue. They're everywhere....surplus stores, EE on ar15.com....

so... how much do they cost?

do you know if its legal to get guns from canada that meet limits in the US (semi auto, small caliber)

it is legal, but not cost effective.

you will have to import it through the BATFE. some firearms ( Norinco etc) can not be had in the US

The problem is, that it is against state law to ship those mags or guns to New Yorkistan.

I doubt you will find a licensed dealer willing to do so.
Let alone one in Canadastan.

As far as preban mags, you can buy them and have tehm shipped to you.

As far as the Tavor, no go, as it's not legally importable unless for Mil/ LE

For those wondering, STANAG means "Standard NATO Agreement." In other words, the NATO standard 5.56x45mm magazine. In other, other words: steel GI mags.

The ATF can declare certain things as "unimportable," even things that would otherwise be separate from the GCA, etc.

Basically, politics.

Most magazines in Canada are either 5 rounders (for rifles) or 10 rounders (for pistols). Often, they look like 30 rounders but only hold 5. You'll usually see something like this:

AR-15 Mag (5/30)

on the Canadian websites. This means it's a 30 round mag, pinned to 5 rounds.

Could you head to a gun show in NYS? Or better yet, got to one in PA and scrounge for pre-bans. They exist. Often, dealers don't know the laws, so they hesitate on shipping to NYS.

As far as M16 mags go, most people sell tehm for what it costs to replace them with a new mag, ie; that preban mag is sold for $15 to cover the cost of a new mag for the seller.

As far as Tavor, it doesn't meet 922r standards or "sporting use" clause, which effect importaion.

to prince yamato :/ i didnt want to import canadian mags, just the TAR-21 (actually, the STAR-21, DM version with ACOG & heavy accurized barrel)

Is there a BATF list of weapons not importable that i can look at for advice?

Just curious, when shooting at a range in NY does LE look at when your magazines were made? I'd assume they'd have difficulty figuring out when an aluminum one was manufactured. The polymer magazines are much newer.

Non-resident conspiracy theories aside, NYS is just like the rest of the country long gun wise, with the exception that they have a state AWB that is a mirror of the old federal one. I'd be willing to bet that most police officers don't know or don't care about the ban, so long as you're not blatantly disobeying it.
