I have bought some .40 s&w from Cheaperthandirt.com but I am sure that can't be the best company to buy ammo from online. Where do you buy your ammunition online?

I cheat - I order it wholesale and get free shipping to my door (I own a gun accessory business).

Of course - ammo has got REAL expensive lately, even wholesale prices - and it is difficult to compete with Wal-Mart's prices.

ammoman.com

and yes, even cabela's, because with the bulk ammo, you get a handy plastic ammo can.

I just shop all over the net and see who is the cheapest. I picked up a good buy on 9mm this week at basspro-cheaper than other sites.

Sportsman's Guide tends to be cheapest for me, thanks to (1) already low prices, (2) 5% Club discount on ammo, and (3) coupons for free shipping or $10 off, whichever works better (usually the former).

Ammoman, AIM, AmmoToGo, Southern Ohio Guns (SOG). J&G Sales, Graf & Sons, Sportsman's Guide, Samco, Georgia Arms, Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), Collins Cartridge Co.

Cabela's has on-line ordering available, but I buy in-store since I drive right by it once a month or so.

AIM Surplus.

I picked up ~2K of Bulgarian light and heavy ball 7.62x54r before it vanished. It works fine in my Mosins.

I also grabbed a can of Hungarian 7.62x25 Tok for a reasonable price.

Although I have never used him, there are a lot of horror stories about him and incorrect orders. Supposedly he is real PITA. Again, I don't if these stories are true or not, but there a whole bunch of them. Check out ar15.com and search for ammoman.
