Dear THR,
Which combination do you prefer for SD?

A. Sig P226 TacOps and CZ 75D Compact PCR

Or

B. Dan Wesson VBob and HK P30

Or

C. HK USP 45 and Glock 26

These are combinations my three friends have. Please elaborate on your pick.

Thanks

Gotta have the VBob, so that was my vote. I could live with a P30 I guess...

But if I could mix n match, it'd be the VBob and the CZ. Though I'd feel comfortable packing any one of the guns your buddies own.

Well, you need another choice. None of the above. I don't even own any of those.

I'm sorry but to me, none of them make much sense.

Me? Glock 19 & a 3" S&W model 13. Black Talon in the one, BB FBI load in the other.

I voted for the HK P30 because it's the only one I would actually consider for self defense. Personally I carry a HK USP 40 and a Kel Tec P11.

For safety reasons I would not carry a Glock or a 1911. I've never shot an actual CZ75, but I've shot a few of the clones and was not impressed with the reliability. SIGs are good, just not one of my favorites.

This makes no sense to me either. At least one of your BUGs is large enough to be considered a primary weapon. None of your combinations have a common caliber which some shooters like. I just don't see how you put those combinations together?

All the combinations are more like a service weapon set of handguns and not a SD set of handguns.

None of the above. I would have two guns that operate the same. For example two Glocks, two Sigs, or two CZs instead of a hodge podge of handguns that confuse any attempt at muscle memory or economy of motion in training.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I generally prefer having the same caliber for both primary and BUG. Not absolutely necessary, but I just like it better that way. I would go with choice a.

None of the above.

Ruger LCR with Crimson Trace for CCW carry with a Glock 34 or 17L available for open carry if needed.

Those choices do not make all that much sense. One could pick G17 or G19 plus G26 and use full size gun mags as reloads for the compact pistol. G22 and G23 would also work. That is how pro would do it.

Out of your list, I chose option A because the 226 and 75 are great guns - I don't have any first hand experience with both the guns in your other options.

At home it's a G34 paired with a Rem 870, out on the go I'll either have a G26 or CZ P-01 on my side.

Well, it doesn't really matter what your friends (or any of us) carry. What do you shoot well? What will you carry everyday and not leave at home or in the glove box? What carry method(s) do you prefer? What works for me (DA revolvers) may not work for you.

As others have mentioned, some of those BUGs are pretty large for their intended purpose. Not sure I'd enjoy carrying two medium to full sized handguns. The most I ever go is a 4" S&W Model 28 (N Frame S&W) on my hip and a little .38 S&W 642 in my pocket.

The USP/G26 would be a great choice for HD and a CCW but just not for me. The DW/P30 is IMHO a poor combo as they're both more compact weapons I would prefer a full size for HD and the DW is a little heavy and P30 is a little bulky for my CCW tastes. So that would leave me using the 226 for HD and the CZ for CCW.

I don't like any of those combinations. You don't give much of a choice there.
