Which military surplus rifle fits you best?

I shoot my S27 K98 the best...but it is not the most comfortable for me to shoot in all positions. for comfort my sks with monte carlo stock wins that award...but its no where near as accurate as my mauser!

M1 Carbine, without a doubt. Light weight, easy to support in any position. For longer ranges, either the M1 Rifle (#1 on the long range list) or my M91/30.

I like my K31 because of the fine craftsmanship that went into the mechanism, but I REALLY detest the stock. It is way too fat for both hands, it's too short and the grip is set at an awkward angle. I don't understand why the Swiss didn't put more work in developing an ergonomically pleasing stock.

My 1918 SMLE might not be as accurate, but I like its slim profile, which makes handling and carying it a lot more pleasant.

Best regards

Erhard

The M1 is the best shooting rifle from the standing position -- its muzzle-heavy balance makes it a natural. The semi-automatic action means no fiddling around with the bolt between shots.

The 03A3 runs a close second.

1. A 1903A3 with a C style pistol grip stock really fits my arms, shoulder, check weld and eyes.

2. The M1 garand Rifle is probably next, although it is a bit off balanced for me.

3. The M-14 was perfect for me, but real milsurp M-14s are rather rare, maybe a BM-59.

4. M-1 carbines are neat but a little on the short stocked side for me.

5. The Later Mk Enfields with the peep sight.

For Non Peep sighted rifles,

1. The US Krag (30-40) Cavalry Cabine version is a dream to shoot and carry.

2. The standard 1903 rifle with the ladder sight.

3. The Swede m/94 Carbine in 6.5x55mm. (if they would have used a combat rear peep sight, the m/94s would have never been given up...)

4. The m/38 Swedish Short Rifle in 6.5x55mm handles very nice and they are much more accurate than the other Mausers.

5. Any of the shorter Mauser 98 variants handle well but the sights do not give you the best accuracy.

6. The m/96 Swedish rifle in full length configuration.

7. The Enfield MKIII series.

8. The US or Norway Krags in the full length configuration.

My K31 is a breeze to shoot. It fits me nicely and on a human silhouette I can pop off head shots shooting off hand very easily. As soon as the weather dries up a bit I'm going to take it to the longer ranges and try to hit some steel gongs with it. I'm planning on a scope for it too. It shoots as nicely as anything I've had in my hands before.
