Right now three guns have caught my eye, but I can only afford one. Given time I intend to get at least two, so please no "get them all" answers. This is about not being rich.
They fill diffferent purposes and have different costs. Furture availability is also a concern.
1.) Colt Woodsman, second generation. I already have a Buckmark Plus to plink with, but there is that reputation of accuracy. The grip angle is a minus, but I can live with it.
2.) Colt Cobra - I already have concealed carry guns, but not quite as small. It also has an excellent trigger. Bluing is worn and I run hot and cold on this one.
3.) S&W 17, a couple with the 6" barrel are available in the area. I recently got into revolvers and I think it would help me get used to the DA pull.

Given these constraints, which would you get first?

Am I reading it right that in essence these would be cool duplicates of guns in niches you already have?

The 17, to me, would be the least interesting, they aren't that old and a K frame .22 I think could get old after a while. Unless you're BIG on .22's.

I like the Ruger .22 Autos and the Buckmark better than the Woodsman I've fired. I wasn't big on the grip angle either. It is probably the most "collectorish" in my view and that's worth something.

I'd buy the Cobra.

I'd go for the S&W model 17. They are accurate, ideal for teaching new shooters, and just plain fun.

The most fun I've had shooting has been with a .22 revolver. The cheap ammo is invaluable when training to use double action shots in larger caiber revolvers. I find that reloading a revolver out of an open box of .22 ammunition is more recreational than loading mags for the semi-autos.

I voted for the S&W 17. I have other .22's and other revolvers, but that 17 always ends up going to the range with me no matter what else I'm taking.

carebear, yes, I have good guns in these niches already but these are all nice guns. So need doesn't drive this choise at all. Just an exercise in dying poor but with good guns.

An older (pinned) K-22 is a joy to own, and more fun to shoot. :D

A Woodsman is just a generic .22 autoloader - and not the best of them - unless it's a minty Match Target version.

A worn Colt Cobra - good to trade to someone who's a sucker for Colts so you can get something better. ;)

Another vote for the K22. I have an old one made circa 1959 that was pretty beat up when I got and it still is. It also still shoots better than I can and it's just plain fun to shoot.
