Which papers do I have to fill out if I sell a gun?
The buyer lives in the SAME State that I do. Do we have to go through a dealer?

The most important thing is what state do you live in? Different rules for different places.

The big difference in Federal rules concerns handguns and people living in different states. In free states like Oklahoma, you can sell your neighbor a rifle or shotgun or even a deadly handgun without filling out any paperwork or even telling "the government" anything about it.

I personally like to ask a few questions and maybe get a copy of a DL if they are someone I don't know personally.

Florida:
no registration and private sales between individuals is perfectly legal.
As long as you believe the guy is of age (18) and is a Fla resident and not a convicted felon you're good to go.
Meet the guy in a parking lot. He gives you cash you give him the gun.
Anything more, bills of sale, checking ID's is optional.

Ain't Fla. Great

Florida is part of free America. Give him the gun when he gives you the money.

Whenever I sell a gun I ask two questions:

1) Are you a New Mexico resident?
2) Are you prohibited from purchasing a firearm?

If I hear "Yes" to the first question and "No" to the second I proceed with the sale.

Here in Alabama the Beautiful if you got the money you get the gun,(in a private, non dealer sale) regardless of age or residence. Alabama recognizes firearms as personal property to be bought or sold at the owners discretion. HOWEVER,I would not recommend selling to someone that you KNOW may be banned from owning a gun or is a danger to himself or others.

just to check, I live in Kentucky- is it legal for a handgun to be privately sold to someone who's over 18 but not yet 21?

Yes in KY. Generally where it is not legal are states that require all firearm sales to be channeled through a FFL dealer, or in the case in Maryland, through the State Police. In these cases, the same conditions apply as if a regular gunshop (dealer) is selling the firearm and a NICs check is conducted. I don't know the laws in every state, but I used to live in KY.

In Kentucky you CAN NOT legally purchase a hand gun if you are under the age of 21. You can only possess on if in the company of an adult. You may buy a long gun if you are over the age of 18 and an air gun over the age of 16.

>It is a sad comment on American liberty when that question has to be asked.

I agree.
