I know it's all personal preference so why ask?

Well, I generally love the XD pistols but not so much in 45. I generally dislike Glock but love the 21/21SF and 30/30SF. I think because the Glock bore axis is low they shoot real soft and I'm accurate as hell shooting it. Better than I shoot my 1911. It seems when it comes to 45, black is white and up is down. So I would appreciate feedback.

Is the SR45 all that? It gets great reviews in some places but I also hear bad ones, mostly issues people have with Ruger struggling a bit with the newer designs right away (which seems normal to me). Any feedback on the bore axis of the SR45 and M&P45? Am I missing any other non-1911 pistol? Only caveat is that I'm in CA and we have our absurd roster here, so I don't have access to everything that's out there like the XDm or (yikes!) the CZ97b (as of 1/1/14). Oh, and I refuse to pay $1000 for a polymer pistol like the USP or HK45. Sigs are nice but never fired a P220 and I'm leaning polymer.

Thoughts? I may get the Glock 21 or 30 but just hate how they look. I feel like I'd have to hide the thing so my friends don't see that I have one :)

id say get the glock 21 if u can get a deal on one (these days glocks are getting too expensive ) if cant then get the m&p45 either way u wont be disappointed.

M&P 45 is a great gun, considering its weight it handles the recoil of the 45 ACP very well, this from the perspective of a 72 year old fart. Mine has been 100% with factory ammo.

Glocks are ugly guns and I narrowly chose a G26 over the G36 and G30 Gen4...wise choice for me. I don't shoot the bigger caliber any where near as well/accurately in threat focused training as I do the G26 but it was a close and difficult choice. But the G30 was dangerously close to coming home with me in addition to the G26...I really liked the G30. I may yet buy one of I can get a handle on .45 recoil and train thru it.

Glocks are ugly chunky blocks but would be my choice in a .45 if I had to have that caliber. The XD-S in .45 would be my second choice if only because I'm dangerously close to being a Glock Fan Boy as well.

VooDoo

I've owned Glock 21, FN, HK, M&P, Ruger 345 and P97. The Glock is the only one I still own.

The only polymer .45 that feels somewhat comfortable and ergonomic in my hand is the FNX-45.

I own a Glock 21, XD45, Ruger P97. I carry the XD45 most often because of capacity. The P97 is however a great bang for the buck and I like mine a lot. And...the Glock is a Glock, great pistol overall.

I just got a glock 21 and shoot it much better than I do my M&P9. The 13 round capacity is great and the gun shoots really soft. In comparison to a 1911 I'd take old faithful, but the glock gives you almost double the rounds. I thought I would never want a glock but now that I have one I know why they are so many people that like them. Not a "fan boy" but the glock 21 is nice, but if you have small hands it may not be the gun for the grip is kind of fat but it is controllable.

+1 on the used USP. I picked up a up a barely used stainless USPc45 the other day just at $500. I dropped an LEM kit in it and it shoots like a dream. Some places are discounting them because they are "old" technology compared to the HK45. I overheard a sales guy the other day who is always full of BS trying to move a new HK45 over a used USP45 because it was "antiquated". I need to find a new LGS!

A friend has the compact XDm .45 that shoots very well and reliable, and also accepts an extended mag with grip extention sleeve for a full grip.

i have shot glock in .45 and xd....eh, but shooting the fnx .45 (mine) or other fn series .45 you should consider. hi cap mag 15rounders,fully ambi, for some reason the recoil is more forgiving than any polymer .45 i ever shot, and a plus they are very accurate

FWIW my 9yo son can fire a mag of 230's from my SR45 without any complaints. He's not that accurate but he does like shooting it.

Ifit. ive heard alot of people say the fnx45 was a soft shooter but i know it was better than the glock 21(it has the softiest recoil of any. 45 I've shot) that's just amazing right well when i get a chance i think ill try one at the range

I think I'll have to rent a USP again along with a FNP and M&P. They all have a circle of enthusiastic followers presumably for good reason.

No SR45 fanboys? For some reason I can't past feeling like Ruger's "thing" is tank-like revolvers and rimfire rifles/pistols. But the SR45 seems to have a lot of positive reviews.

The USP might be good but only in the under-$600 used category. I doubt it's almost 2x as good as a Glock so I won't pay 2x the price.

jamal, im more of a cz guy but since i first shot the fnx it drew my attention more to the fn line of pistols, more so that i just picked up my fns-9 LS yesterday:) did i mention the fnx .45 is also accurate.... this is my first shots outa the fnx .45

I wish the FNX was available in CA. I hear they are a bit more "finished" than the FNP and have an even lower bore axis.

I have both the 21 and 30, both Gen4 models and both are great. If you plan on carrying it a bunch, the 30 might make more sense, plus you can get a 9rd flush fitting mag from Glock that shortens up the grip more and helps in carrying it concealed. With the 9rd mag, it's just slightly taller than a G26/27. Here lately I find myself using the 9rd mag when carrying the 30.

I used to think Glocks were ugly, but now I love the way they look so I guess they just grow on you. There are plenty of uglier guns than a Glock.

Ifit how is the double action trigger pull on the fnx45? Is it better than the Beretta 92

Look at a Sig or M&P. Also an old Ruger P series shouldn't be ruled out. A Friend has a P97 and I love shooting it. I have a P95 in 9mm and it's just a wonderful gun. P345's are supposed be as nice.

I have not held or shot an SR45 but I do own an SR9c and SR40c. Love them. In fact the Ruger is the only 40 I've ever shot that I like. I know a couple of guys that have SR45's and they really like them.

For me though, you're not taking my XD45c away from me. I love that gun.

I tried the XD45c and didn't like it nearly as much as I expected to. It wasn't bad it's just that my XD9sc is so damn fun to shoot I maybe had too high expectations for the XD45.

I think I'll rent the M&P and the SR45 if I can get my hand on one, but unless one of those blows me away it's a 30sf for me.
