Which powder for .40 plated RMR 155 RNFP: 800X or HS-6?

I also have Longshot and BE-86 and silhouette right now but I have found those more useful in other calibers i shoot a lot. HS-6 and 800X haven’t stood out as exceptional for my purposes and I’d like to use them up. Which do you think would be better for midrange range loads and why? I also have some titegroup but I’ve never used it and it’s filed under KABOOM in my mind.

when I had my 40's I loaded lots of 155gr RNFP plated with HS-6 but I used CCI 550 primers , they shot very well for me and I stuck with the combo for at least 5 years

I've used them both. I like 800 X in .40 and 10 mm. I use HS-6 in 9mm and .38 Special.

I've never used 800X so no help to you on that, but did load HS6 for my 40's when I started out and was the powder I was using until I tried CFE and switched to that. Never had an issue with it, if you are looking to use it up and get rid of the HS6 then load away for the 40 and get some range time out of it, but always better when it's followed up with 8 and a PING (jus sayin)

I’m going to load 40 each with LS, HS6, and 800X and see if I can shoot the difference or if there are other undesirable characteristics like unburned flakes. I imagine I won’t be able to shoot the difference but you never know. Thanks folks

I use 800x for .45 Super loads. I would choose this simply because I have it on hand. From my experience 800x burns cleanly (no sooty deposits) and leaves no traces of residual powder in the case. By definition .45 Super is a pretty hot high pressure load with magnum primers, not sure how it would do at lower pressure.

That is why I like it in the 40 and 10mm.

800-x is a great 10mm Auto powder for heavy bullets, I like it in 44 Mag too. I am sure it would work for moderate loads in 40S&W but it meter so badly I am not sure its worth the hassle for range fodder ammo. I don't mind weighing 50 chargers for my heavy hunting 10mm but I don't want to be doing that if I was cranking bulk 40S&W ammo on my Dillon XL 650.

I personally like Titegroup for 40S&W loads under a 180gr bullet. Use it for several year of high volume competition loads. It meters well, is cost effective. You do have to be conscious that double charges fit easily (ask me how I know ). It is also hot burning so handguns get hot faster but that my or may not be a factor for the OP.

800x will give you the same high velocity at less pressure than will HS6....
800X will also give you a headache measuring it...

I love 800X in my 357 SIG(top velocity) ....and HS6 (full velocity ...not as high as 800x)

I ended up installing the rifle stem / drum in my Hornady powder measure. It metered pretty well after that. I think it was the wider opening that did the trick.

I've had good luck with the PAD metering Red Dot and the like so hopefully I can get acceptably consistent throws with 800X. If I can't I won't use it.
