I want to mount a red dot reflex sight to my Jack Weigand base on a Super Blackhawk 44 magnum. The base limits the weight of the sight to 3.5 oz. Does anybody out there have one that's held up to a 44 mag? I've researched a lot of models but none of them say words to the effect of "This is the one you need for a 44 mag!" Seems like all the reviews I read are from guys putting them on .22's and 9mm's. So far I've narrowed my search down to the Vortex Venom due to overall good reviews and the lifetime warranty. Any help is appreciated!

To be honest, I don't think there's been a whole lot of testing of the micro reflex sights on hard kicking revolvers. UltraDots hold up great on the biggest of big bores but I don't know if that extends to their reflex sight or not. I think the best you can do is choose a high quality model with a good warranty and see how it does. Like the Vortex, Fastfire, RMR, Leupold, etc..

My jpoint is by far the lightest reddot I have it’s .5 oz with the battery.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I don't think so either, otherwise info would be easier to find. The models you listed all look like good choices, and I believe I'm still going with the Vortex.

Have you contacted the manufacture and asked them?

That's a good idea. Funny, never even thought of it.

I ran a Vortex Venom with a Jack Weigand base, on a S&W 629 without any problem.

A526051.............Glad to hear you didn't have any problems with the Vortex Venom on your 629! I used to have a 629 years ago, but sold it to buy cowboy guns when I got into cowboy action shooting.

Steve in PA..........That's a nice looking set-up. I got that Weig-a-tinny mount for Christmas and can't wait to get a sight mounted on it!
